I think what really sucks about this is that they charged $70/$80 for a game with an incomplete story, only for us to pay an additional $35 to experience the rest of the story

And the story is not even that great. It's microwave popcorn

In the In Water ending James talks to Mary's dead body in the backseat and takes a brief look at her. He's no longer holding onto his delusions.
In the Stillness ending he's hallucinating that Mary's dead body has come back to life, and his mental illness is again taking over.
The two endings are total opposites although they look very similar.

The Stillness ending is also much more vague and open to interpretation about what happens afterwards, as James' question "Will you wait for me?" implies he might not be ready to "reunite" with Mary just yet.
