Funny how every Chinese milestone comes with a mandatory ‘but SpaceX did it first’ disclaimer. The seething is the real historic achievement here.

It’s important to note that @SpaceX Falcon 9 recovers the first stage booster without the complex structure or nets. And they’ve been doing that for years.

Once it is operational, @SpaceXSH will be caught by the launch tower it launches from, maximising launch cadence and minimising delays between flights. It’s already demonstrated this capability.

Make no mistake this is a big step forward for #China, but it doesn’t necessarily imply China is ready to compete with SpaceX just yet!

Fruit flies laugh at the AI community 🤣

A fruit fly's brain has only about 135000 neurons using only milliwatts of power. Yet, it can survive, navigate and procreate in an extremely complex 3D environment. How does it do it?

If its intelligence was based on deep learning, the AI community's most celebrated and most used breakthrough, the fruit fly would have to store representations for every tree, leaf, flower, fruits, insects and other fruit flies in its brain. In other words, it would have to carry a datacenter on its back and the powerplant needed to keep it running. 😀

Luckily for the fruit fly, its tiny brain doesn't have to contain a world model. It can use the world as its own model. This is why it has sophisticated sensors, to perceive the world on the fly, no pun intended. It only needs to remember a few important things about the world.

So every time I see a famous DL expert or AI celebrity talking about the need for world models, I burst out laughing. I can't help it. 😁😂🤣
