Today I learned that, already in 2010, US government officials raised serious concerns over South Africa's ruling ANC slipping into anti-democratic practices reminiscent of the apartheid-regime.

Further parallels identified were increased incidents of suppression of dissent, political violence and intimidation, and intense paranoia among ANC leadership.

This comes from a confidential diplomatic cable leaked by Wikileaks, dated January 8, 2010, titled: “Is the ANC as Democratic as it Claims?”

They first encountered bantus 120 years later at the blue circle.

Six months in America as refugees from South Africa.

We are still here—still working and still grateful for the chance to call America our new home. Each day, as I drive along quiet country roads, I’m struck by the country’s sense of order. People care. Roads are maintained, improved, and expanded, and progress is visible every day. Properties are kept with obvious pride: lawns are mowed, leaves are cleared, and flowers fill the beds. Mail arrives at the house, packages are left at the front door, and American flags fly from porches because people are proud of their country.

I am slowly adjusting to life without six-foot fences, solid walls, or electric wiring. “Beware of the dog” signs are rare. Cars and bakkies sit outside overnight, and children walk through the woods simply because they can. I no longer experience the daily ritual at every traffic light—the woman with a child asking for money, the man selling phone chargers, license-disc holders, or black bags. That constant pressure is gone.

I still lock the apartment door. I still check my surroundings at the shops, and the sounds of the 4th of July had my nerves on edge. The old, grinding anxiety is fading, though but not erased- just quieter.

Soon, we will move a little farther north for a new role in the company and the next chapter of our lives. The outlook is strong and improving. America is giving us more than a place to call home; it is restoring our hope and the joy of living. It is a truly remarkable place.

South Africa signed a military cooperation deal with Iran in 2016 already. However, our GNU government offers very little transparency on what exactly this deal entails.

Now, we are finding out that Iranian Drone Pilots are trained at the Overberg Airforce base?

With Iran now in active conflict with the USA, the consequences of our military relationship with them could have devastating consequences for ordinary South Africans.

South African dragged off the street in broad daylight.

26-year-old Alex Soleil Van Heerden was last seen at 18:57 on Wednesday 5 August 2026. She had just left News Cafe in Rosebank in an Uber, heading home to 123 Mimosa Road, Northcliff, Johannesburg.

The moment she stepped out of the Uber at her own gate, at least three unidentified men forced her into a white Renault hatchback. Video footage captured the entire brazen kidnapping. She was taken against her will right there on her doorstep. The Uber driver did the right thing and raced straight to the nearest police station to report it.

She was wearing a white dress and jacket. No tattoos or distinctive markings.

This is not a “missing person.” This is a targeted kidnapping in a supposedly “safe” northern suburb. A young woman, an attorney by all accounts, yanked off the pavement in front of her own home while the country pretends crime is under control.

My bank refused to process my attempt to pay R0 to my daughter!

While sitting in court listening to President Ramaphosa’s legal team argue that R0 (nil) constitutes the payment of compensation, I tried to “pay an amount of R0” to my daughter using my banking app.

Unlike President Ramaphosa’s legal team, my bank refused to process my attempt to pay R0 to my daughter. It insisted that the payment amount had to be greater than zero. It appears that in the real world R0 is not regarded as an amount or a payment. 😀

Section 25(2)(b) of the Constitution explicitly provides that expropriation may take place only if compensation is paid by the payment of an amount.

Apparently, my bank and the Constitution have a better understanding of what constitutes both a payment and an “amount” than the ideologically driven argument that R0 can be regarded as the payment of an amount.

Landed in the USA after long travel and a last-moment flight change. We will forever be grateful for this life-saving approval to become part of the USA.

Safe is an understatement. I didn't see anyone making a fire under a bridge, hawkers jumping at the chance to ask for a handout, or black smoke from someone melting copper cable in the distance.

This high-trust society leaves the fridge and produce open for purchase even when no one is watching.

One will never see this in SA as it would be gone at the first chance.

Also no pickup points at highway off-ramps and no cut or broken fences like in SA.

Amazed, blessed, forever grateful.
