I'll break this down in simple terms and why Bron did this and why every rich person at that level does this:

In 2018 Bron borrowed almost $300M against his future Nike & business earnings. Doesn’t have to pay it back until 2049.

Why it works: Loan money isn’t taxed. If he sold assets or took it as income he’d lose 40-50% to taxes.

Rich people do this constantly — borrow against their own stocks/assets instead of selling so they keep ownership and skip the tax bill.

It is genuinely hilarious how quickly Mavericks fans have developed collective amnesia. You guys are plotting this grand "Project 2028" reunion like Luka is a study-abroad student coming home to his college sweetheart.

Did you completely block out the trauma of the 2025 trade, or are you just choosing to ignore how incredibly toxic the divorce actually was? Let me slap you with some reality, because there is a zero percent chance Luka is ever wearing a Dallas jersey again.

You guys are dreaming of a reunion with a player your front office absolutely dragged on his way out the door. The Mavericks didn't just trade him; they practically chased him out of town because they didn't want to pay him the $345 million supermax he had earned. They shipped a generational, 25-year-old superstar to Los Angeles for an aging, injury-prone Anthony Davis under the delusion of "improving the defense".

Why on earth would Luka return to play for an ownership group that publicly humiliated him? The ink wasn't even dry on the Lakers trade before Mavs owner Patrick Dumont was running to the media to completely trash Luka's work ethic.

And let's not forget how the media treated him on the way out. National talking heads like Stephen A. Smith and Charles Barkley dogpiled on his conditioning, and the local media wasn't much better. He was the scapegoat for every Dallas shortcoming.

The funniest part? Karma hit Dallas immediately.

Your owner, Patrick Dumont, was literally caught sitting courtside apologizing to a teenager who was wearing a Luka Lakers jersey because the team was so unwatchable.

So, let's connect the dots. You want a player to come back to a franchise that:

1. Refused to pay him his supermax.
