Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba) graciously granted an audience to Mr Archibald Gandah of Zimbabwe, a writer and scholar of comparative religions, earlier this month.

During the meeting, Mr Gandah informed His Holiness that his research into the life of Jesus had led him to conclude that Jesus did not perish on the cross, but instead migrated eastward in search of the lost sheep of Israel.

That is the same thesis expounded by the Promised Messiah (as) a century ago in his book 'Jesus in India'. Mr Gandah said his writings had a profound impact on him.

There are certain injunctions in Islam that are administrative in nature, and this appears to be one of them, especially considering that there is an appointed time for Salat.
Firstly, if people were allowed to offer congregational prayers whenever they wished, many would gradually lose regard for the prescribed timings of Salat. For instance if someone is occupied with work or any other activity, they may simply say, “We can always establish our own Jama’at later,” and therefore feel no urgency to leave what they are doing in order to join the main congregation at its appointed time. This goes against one of the key wisdoms behind congregational prayer, which is discipline, punctuality, and unity upon the prescribed times of worship.
Secondly, allowing people to form congregations freely at any time could create numerous issues within the community. For example, if some individuals dislike a particular Imam, they may refuse to pray behind him and later offer a separate congregation in the same mosque.
One of the major objectives of these regulations is therefore to preserve unity, order, and mutual harmony within the Jama’at. From an administrative perspective, it is permissible for such rules to be established for the greater benefit of the community.
However, it should also be noted that offering another congregation is not considered strictly forbidden (haram); rather, it is regarded as Makruh. In cases of genuine need, another Imam may lead a separate congregation, as can be seen during certain occasions when individuals assigned to duties are permitted to establish their own Jama’at, and in some situations even a separate Jumu’ah prayer.
This position is also found in some other school of thoughts as well.
