@BradSpellberg ran @LAGeneralMed through the worst of it. When he tells you what happened, you listen.
I was seeing 20+ COVID patients a day. Our hospital was full. It was overwhelming. And I wasn't alone — colleagues in LA, New York, New Orleans were living the same nightmare.
What's so enraging about Dr. Marine's post is that he's taking his one relatively comfortable experience and extrapolating it to deny what thousands of frontline doctors lived through. He's invalidating the worst professional experience of our lives, publicly, which gives ammunition to everyone who wants to believe COVID was overblown.
And he's a doctor. That's what makes this so damaging. When some random podcaster says hospitals weren't overwhelmed, whatever. When an MD says it, people point to him and say "see, even doctors agree it was a lie." He's lending his credentials to denialism.
The framing — "the myth of overwhelmed hospitals" — isn't just minimizing. He's calling us liars. He's saying the suffering we witnessed, the patients we lost, the trauma our colleagues still carry was manufactured for political purposes.
Dr. Spellberg is out here saying "we have PTSD to this day" and Marine's response is essentially that the doctors he knew thought it was fun and had high morale. Meanwhile the rest of us were watching people suffocate and die, day after day, week after week.
We're not making this up. We were there.

O'KEEFE: What's so wrong with obtaining a judicial warrant to enter private property?
HOMAN: That's not what federal law requires
O'KEEFE: As I recall, you previously said you thought judicial warrants were required

Bluesky is the new science Twitter: new study concludes
For the past decade, Twitter has been a primary home of scientists on social media. In recent years, new leadership at Twitter has made substantive changes that have resulted in increases in the prevalence of pseudoscience, conspiracy theory, and harassment on the platform, causing many scientists to seek alternatives. [including me]
Survey results overwhelmingly confirm that changes to Twitter have made the social media platform no longer professionally useful or pleasant, and that many scientists have abandoned it in favor of Bluesky.
Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter.

A new study suggests that single adults experience greater well-being when their basic psychological needs are met. The findings indicate that autonomy, secure attachment, and viewing singlehood as a choice are key predictors of satisfaction. https://t.co/Ssg7q58Ikk
🚨 MAGA influencer and Andrew Tate cultist, Mike Cernovich, threatens to blackmail anyone who goes after Steve Bannon in 2017.
He says if Bannon is removed, "there are gonna be divorces. Because I know about mistresses, sugar babies, drugs, pill popping, orgies, I know everything."
It has been clear for a long time that there is a real connection between Tate's and Bannon's circles, as well as those in Trump's circle and administration.
ICE didn't exist before 2003. It was born out of the War on Terror — the same political project that expanded U.S. wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. Now the same infrastructure surveils immigrants in Minneapolis and bombs journalists in Gaza. Author Harsha Walia on why you can't separate the two. https://t.co/38zfzfPVan
The rapid rise in online sports betting addiction should concern us all. The early days of the Opioid epidemic were marked by normalization, easy access, and aggressive marketing - warning signs we’re seeing again. When profit outpaces protection, families pay the price. We can’t ignore the parallels...

Most Americans can’t afford food, housing or healthcare.
Please understand that the stock market isn’t the economy, it’s a measurement of how wealthy people are doing.
I’m frankly amazed that these MDs want to lump post-vaccination reactions (chills, mild fever) - which is how vaccines WORK - together with ILI from an actual viral infections.
The most dangerous complication of flu is developing into pneumonia which can cause deaths. Last flu season, ~30K Americans died from pneumonia.
You don't develop pneumonia from vaccine reactions that resemble the flu! You don't assess the CLINICAL UTILITY of a flu vaccine by combining these 2 things!!!
Look, I am not urging every one to take a flu shot each year. I rarely take it. But I make sure my elderly parents get them each year.

Immigrants in the US are more likely to be in poverty, yet they use roughly average levels of needs-based benefits — including welfare, food aid, Medicaid, tax credits, and unemployment insurance — according to Cato’s @David_J_Bier.

“Hit the water!” Those were the last words Willie Edwards Jr. heard before being forced by the KKK at gunpoint to jump into the Alabama River on the morning of Jan. 23, 1957.
Mr. Willie Edwards Jr., 24 years old was kidnapped by the KKK from his delivery truck and forced to jump to his death from a bridge.
His body was found three months later by a fisherman.
The four klansmen responsible would confess, recant, and pass and fail polygraphs. They were never convicted for the murder.

The U.S. State Department has ordered certain public libraries nationwide to cease processing passport applications, disrupting a long-standing service...-AP
Weird, now it's harder to get a passport, right when the SAVE Act might require one to vote.
They can't win, so they cheat!
The State Department ordered nonprofit public libraries to stop processing passport applications, which communities had relied on for decades. The regime cited regulations prohibit non-governmental organizations" from collecting and retaining fees."
Members from both parties in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Maryland pushed back, saying most of their libraries are organized as nonprofit. The American Library Association estimates about 1,400 or 15% of public libraries nationwide could be affected.
