I teach, sing, and dance, usually at the same time, as much as possible. I love teaching math. PGH - Arkansas - SATX - SMTX. she/her #lovegodlovepeople#H2P
The implications here are 1) that the district-chosen curriculum aligns perfectly to student ability, need, and differentiation, and 2) that I have no ability to choose material and evaluate its effectiveness. I take offense at the use of “random” here.
Allow teachers to wear jeans everyday. It sounds silly, but I spend my day crawling over backpacks, crouching down next to students, sitting criss cross on the floor, and tripping over chromebook chargers. Jeans are so helpful and practical. That alone would signal understanding.
Teachers…
What is one thing you wish your principal would do that would tell you they understood how hard this job truly is?
Thank you, in advance, for answering. I’m hoping to be better and potentially help others too.
This is at least my 8th year making #interactivenotebooks with students, and this is the first year that I have explicitly taught what is considered an appropriate amount of tape in Room 310. It was a life-changing move. Not joking.
Many algebra curriculums allow 45-90 minutes to solve multi step equations with variables on both sides. I have long said and still believe that moving quickly through math is not the same as teaching equitable math.
Being a teacher is my favorite thing and my ultimate dream, but I also dream of how I would design an algebra curriculum on my own. For years, I have said that I would slow algebra curriculum way down. Looking at it again this year, I still agree.
Then imagine another day where we look at equations in a different way, like with error analysis or looking at pieces of equations and asking how it got from one step to the next. Then imagine a day where we solve equations on a more permanent surface for the teacher to assess.
The “check-in/check-out” (CICO) strategy can help educators spend more time teaching—and less time addressing disruptive behaviors.

Hoping that @nearpod will join @Screencastify in extending premium membership to teachers for the rest of the academic year! I can’t describe how vital it’s been for my classes.
