@whatisnuclear I looked a little more into this and I don't think Peter Yorke actually created this Soundcloud account. A British composer by that name composed for Josef Weinberger (a mood music library company whose stylized logo is in the album art) & died in 1966!

@SipOfKoKo *depends on whether the circumstances of my acquisition of knowledge of these dead languages enables me to persuade linguists that I possess genuine knowledge of these extinct languages
otherwise I just become a bitter crank lol
@SipOfKoKo Proto-Indo-European
Proto-Semitic
Proto-Basque
Proto-Austronesian
Proto-Uto-Aztecan
I could* easily become the most published & cited scholar of linguistics in human history, almost surely never to be surpassed.
(The question did not specify they must be living languages!!!)
So I know how everyone loves LCOE, but has anyone thought about applying discount rates to the nuclear waste "problem"?
Like at a 12% discount rate, even if nuclear waste were to be a trillion $ problem in 200 years, economics dictates that we should spend no more than $7 on it now....
@Nuclearjunkie I'm literally always saying this, and completely sincerely.
Whatever problems spent nuclear fuel will cause in the future, it's nothing a few billion invested today in a diversified stock portfolio cannot solve.
@moms4nuclear I disagree with slogans like "Babies for X" or "Dogs for X" or any similar construction that imputes active, conscious support for a viewpoint that the agent is incapable of holding, expressing, or understanding. The parent / pet owner is the one actually expressing the view.
@ElGranSenglar (Just kidding. My serous answer is: even though 26.2 stickers are everywhere if you know what you are looking at, I expect most people don't give them much thought and have never looked that number up.)
@MartinPerring@LinkofSunshine They don't dis-aggregate the data to identify any standout schools that are encouraging women to major in STEM, but in principle they could as they have the data to do it.
The avg. "always co-ed" school has fewer women majoring in STEM than the avg. former women's college.
@MartinPerring@LinkofSunshine Here is the authors' take on why. They don't have affirmative evidence on what caused the decrease in STEM-majoring, but they do rule out certain causes.
@aragon1500@LinkofSunshine They are not merely looking at schools that transitioned to co-ed around 1970. Figure 1 shows that their sample includes schools that transitioned in the 1980s and the 2000s, as well:
@aragon1500@LinkofSunshine I'm pleased to report that the paper is more sophisticated at identifying the timing of the effect than you are assuming. Here's how the paper shows that the effect is a product of the university environment: (1/?)
