I actually think $LAZR is a pretty good “tracker” ETF for photonics.
Kinda like $DRAM with memory.
Just some TLDR notes:
Top three holdings make sense with $LITE, $AXTI, and $AIXA.
- Lumentum is the best InP laser manufacturer imo.
- AXT will continue to benefit thanks to the InP shortage worsening.
- Aixtron is an interesting name not many people talk about, but they make the MOCVD machines to make the lasers.
Also seen some different photonics ETFs get released recently which are too surface level imo e.g. focus mainly on transceivers.
If you’re paying for a managed ETF, then I think it makes sense to have slightly more comprehensive exposure to the theme where you can almost set + forget.
With that, it does seem like $LAZR has complete coverage over the supply chain from InP to semis equipment to lasers and pluggables / CPO modules.
Cool to see some of X’s favourite names there too like $SIVE, $IQE and $AEHR which should all benefit longer term via the ongoing photonics ramp.
Disclosure: NFA - I have no positions / incentives in $LAZR.
Just sharing thoughts as I’ll probably be using $LAZR as a proxy tracker for the overall photonics/optical theme.
With the memory trade...
Don't forget who had conviction and advocated for buying the bottom/dip while the whole of X capitulated over the weekend.
$SNDK: +30% this week
$DRAM: +17%
Samsung: +16%
$MU: +13%
SK hynix: +12%
Now, I wanted to emphasise that if names can go up 20% in a day, they can most certainly fall 20% in a day.
We saw that during July.
I would therefore encourage everyone invested in memory to use this time to build some solid conviction and foundational understanding.
A first class ticket to losing money is through a lack of understanding over your invested companies.
Often times, even a basic understanding can be enough to carry you through a trade from start -> finish.
If not, bottoms will be sold and tops will be bought...
And most importantly, do not plainly copy-trade.
In the long-run, it's in your best interest to miss out on 10% gains (for example) on a stock to instead spend time doing research into a company mentioned on X from your favourite account.
View that 10% "loss" as an investment into yourself as a...well...investor!
Those "losses" will compound in your direction over time.
@aleabitoreddit The JPM position appears to be their trading book so likely holding as collateral rather than a JPM Asset Management institutional position.
HOLY $SMCI, +17%
Surely I was the only person on X to be contrarian enough to go long pre-earnings?
Rev: $10.2B = +123% YoY
EPS: $0.84 vs. Est. $0.62
Net inc: $483M = +344% YoY
Q4 guidance raised:
Rev: $11B-$12.5B vs. Est. $11.3B
EPS: $0.65-$0.79 vs. Est. $0.56
As I predicted r.e. their margins:
"Our margin recovery and the rapid growth of our DCBBS business demonstrate that our business remain robust"
"We are exceptionally well-positioned to meet the massive demand for various AI and enterpise verticals."
Very happy with this trade!
We see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere. That's us, together, watching as our astronauts make their journey to the Moon.
Things that were deliberately burned yesterday:
1. Four empty ambulances by unknown people
2. A 1 year old baby (tortured) by the IDF
Have a guess which one has saturation mainstream media coverage and statements of condemnation?
A couple of ambulances in London get damaged and the whole UK media industry mobilises.
But when an entire generation of Arab Palestinians gets genocided, the media can't even recognise it.
Journalism has become corrupted!
This is remarkable.
Tucker Carlson mildly challenges the Economist’s editor-in-chief to define what Israel’s “right” to exist means, and they flounder.
A concept that has been regurgitated and absorbed for decades, with no interrogation. Simply accepted as an immovable truth.
This is getting so extreme that one day, it might even be that American politicians feel like they need to make pilgrimage to Israel and put on a yarmulke and kiss a wall, and then go back to the US and visit synagogues and AIPAC conferences to praise Israel. Could you imagine?
It is utterly unjustifiable, he says now, and yet the Labour government and the Labour Party in opposition tried to justify it again and again over the past two years.
