From corn in the Midwest to rice in the Delta, nitrogen (N) is still N, but the crop and environment change how we manage it.
We reviewed key preflood N concepts in rice: https://t.co/GR0477AmbX
Pics from our N rice demo at @NEArkRice. Details to come🌾🛰️ Thanks Justin for the help with the N application!
Got the soybean phosphorus trial established this afternoon. We have three rates of triple super phosphate and two rates of DAP on soybeans planted in a very low phosphorus field. Thanks to @a_mosmith for all the help getting this established! @AginArk@AR_Extension
A good week of learning and field work in Arkansas🌱
Thanks to everyone who shared their time, experience, and help this week!
🚜 Learned about cotton seed treatments with Dr. Studebaker and helped with planting
🛰️ Collected the first drone/satellite imagery for my soybean K study
🌾 Set up my N-STaR + GreenSeeker rice demo plots at @NEArkRice
A lot more to learn and that is the best part😃😊
One of the things I value most about @AR_Extension is the role county agents play. County demonstrations happen because agents know their growers, fields, and local challenges.
This year I will have a few soil fertility demos too 🌾🌱
Last Friday was spent collecting N-STaR samples with Chris in Craighead County and delivering fertilizer for a P and K demo with @faulkneruada in Faulkner County.
Super grateful with them for their time and support!

Progress, preflood N for low stands, yield by planting date, grass & sedge control, & rice markets.
Hidden hunger in soybean was a common topic in the county meetings I attended when I first arrived in Arkansas.
Last week, we set up a soybean K trial to explore sensor-based approaches that can complement tissue sampling for identifying hidden hunger and supporting more timely decisions. 🌱🚜
Looking forward to learning from this. Thanks to Nick and Jimmy for making it happen!
We have a specialist postion in ag engineeing with a focus on equipment, irrigation, and precison agriculture. UD has field equipment, a variable rate irrigation research farm, and specialists to work with on site. Please share! https://t.co/43jighGBZC
Congratulations to Dr. Dan Quinn on receiving the University of Kentucky Plant and Soil Sciences Alumnus Early Career Award. 👏
We’re proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and are grateful for the leadership he brings to The Kernel Lab and Purdue Agronomy. 🌽
Three new research publications on cotton variety, soybean performance & soil fertility are now available on the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station website: https://t.co/51giks0zYW
@ARCrops@AginArk
Coming from Indiana’s subsurface tile systems, it’s interesting to see the shift to raised beds here in Arkansas to manage the unique irrigation and drainage demands of the Delta’s soils 🌾🚜
Thanks to our Research Operations Manager, Nick, for his support at @NEArkRice as I get up to speed on Arkansas equipment and field operations.
Planning to grow rice?🌾
The N-STaR soil test can help determine field-specific N needs and guide your fertilizer decisions.

Thanks to Michael Chaney (Poinsett County Extension Agent) for his help with the sampling demo!
@Arkansas_Rice@NEArkRice
Today was a day to remember.
Arkansas is the nation's leading rice producer🌾🚜
Thanks @SMatthewsfarms and your crew for your time and the opportunity to learn more about and experience rice production here.
Looking forward to learning more!😊
