A Polish mother was arrested after refusing to leave her 13 year old son unattended with a police officer in Liverpool. Her son had been accused by a Nigerian family living in social housing of stealing garden keys, an allegation he denies.

The officer later threatened to pepper spray the mother, who was then arrested. The boy was taken into a police van barefoot, with the officer refusing to let him retrieve his shoes and socks. The boy also claims that the officer later broke his wrist. More evidence to follow.

The FBI, since I’ve been in the seat, has seen a 55 percent increase in espionage arrests alone—55 percent from the last 16 months that I’ve been in compared to the prior two years of the Biden administration.

That’s a massive uptick, but that just shows you that we are laser-focused pursuant to the President’s directive to stop espionage activities, no matter who the source is, who the actor is, whatever form it comes in.

Our adversaries are always looking to steal our secrets, to co-opt our citizens, and have them steal our secrets and send them back to places like Russia, China, DPRK, Iran, just to name a few.

There’s a decent chance that an adversary is looking to co-opt you as a spy or conduct espionage activities, where there’s a decent chance that they’re looking to defraud you or steal your money, or just steal your data.

If you hold power in the American government, your loyalty should belong to America.

A federal judge born in Trinidad and Tobago, who pledged at her confirmation hearing to renounce her foreign citizenship and reportedly never did, blocked the Trump administration from verifying voter citizenship data through the SAVE database.

This isn't the first case where a foreign-born in power made clear their loyalty is not to America, and it won't be the last unless we fix the gap in our Constitution allowing it.

We introduced a constitutional amendment to close the gap.

All year long we heard “we’ll get to the SAVE America Act when we have time,” realizing it would likely take a few weeks.

We waited patiently while fully funding DHS and addressing other priorities, expecting to return to it when time allowed.

It’s now August, and we’ve already taken more recess weeks this year than I can count.

There are 21 weeks remaining in 2026, and approximately 14 of them will be spent with the Senate in recess.

Why?

These few weeks in August offer what could be the perfect chance to return to the SAVE America Act and debate the bill until it passes.

We should be doing precisely that.

Frankly, we should have done it months ago.

That’s why I objected to recess and voted against it.

Unfortunately, I and those who joined me in opposing it were far outnumbered—with all Democrats and most Republicans preferring to take yet another lengthy recess, this time until September 14th.
