@neilh2o @thehill@SenJoniErnst True, even at $15 an hour in some parts of the country. But, you still need affordable child care or you will work and still be unable to pay the rent and put food on the table, especially if you are a single parent.
@LAUseLogic1@mikebonin@LAFD Try educating yourself. I was talking about the largest wildfires. I am not suggesting any fires should be discounted, but where is your vitriol for the causes of these disasters?
@RoofLesser@c9495208019@MrAnthonyWilli2@homeless_new@asobel@VeniceNC To clarify: PSH was to be 100% of unsheltered (2700), or 50% of 2018 PIT. It was never written in. 60% was just a trial #. 60% never enough. People want a place they can call home, not a cot. # of unhoused in OC almost double now.
@homeless_new@RoofLesser@MrAnthonyWilli2 Not quite. The shelters were supposed to be temporary. It was PSH/affordable housing for all in the 2018 PIT count -- 2700 new "housing" units - not shelters -- by 2025. Even that was a serious undercount. The next year, the number was 4,000 unsheltered, which was low, too.
@c9495208019@RoofLesser@MrAnthonyWilli2@homeless_new@asobel@VeniceNC Judge Carter is still on the OC Homeless case. He was removed from the separate lawsuit against the South Orange County cities, who do not even have shelters and won't create them. They want to solve their problem by sending people to Santa Ana.
@lafuturist@Peter_Clune@OIGLABOPC@MatthewStrugar The weapons are "target specific". If they hit someone in the head, that is where they were aiming, in violation of policy. LAPD says it was all "unintentional" or "inadvertent." How?
@lafuturist@Peter_Clune@OIGLABOPC@MatthewStrugar LAPD put out reports and briefs in court: apparently, it was "inadvertent" or "unintentional" where they hit someone in the chest, head, neck, face -- all banned strike zones by LAPD policy: shooting with "less lethal" and targeting these areas can cause death
@ogBravo1 @VeniceCitizen Thanks for cutting me some slack. I try to keep all of the numbers in my head but sometimes I recall incorrectly -- but usually close enough for the purpose of solutions.
@RoofLesser@GoSkidRowGo@VeniceNC I did say that. There should be a court transcript of the hearing. I believe the announcement of 2700 units PSH was made by Dan Young. Why should we base "success" on putting people in jail if there is no place for 40% to go but the streets? Our failure
@SamDani38232216 @ProtectVenice @CurrentVenice We know what doesn't work, so why not work for solutions with lasting results. The current situation is inhumane for everyone. We can't solve this problem with shelters or jail cells. We don't have enough of either and they cost more than SROs.
@ProtectVenice @meghanncuniff@LACANetwork@MayorOfLA Actually, I am very vocal on not adding more shelters. The evidence is that they cost more and are less effective than housing alternatives, including SROs. I am trying to get the City to engage in real solutions to a challenge that is not going away. What do you do?
