@PortlyPen@sauropodatchi because I love invalidating white Appalachians (as someone who is native and has Appalachian ancestry). White Appalachians in the 19th & 20th c invented native ancestry to avoid acknowledging black ancestry
@morematerial@ettingermentum A huge issue with “cultural appropriation” was that it lumped everything from dressing like a racial caricature (clearly insane thing to do) to eating food from another part of the world (great thing to do) into one Problem, weakening critique of the former
@Zeno25@ContraPoints I mean yeah obviously. No government was legalizing weed out of the genuine belief that it had all the purported medicinal benefits. I therefore don’t think any research done on said medicinal benefits is necessarily an attack on legalization
@Zeno25@ContraPoints I see what you’re getting at but alcohol was banned for years (or decades in some places) because of its harmful properties, and was only legalized because prohibition made it more dangerous & for the sales tax. Also no one claims that alcohol has medicinal effects anymore
@RasberryRazz@huppertspiano but then they managed to sneak in the last shot, where they kinda look like a throuple so uhhhh you win some you lose some?
@offbeatorbit i mean they already did it with MAID, something that was a pretty banal lefty position, but now a bunch of purportedly progressive people are allying with catholic groups against it lol
happy birthday to this mayan king whose name and 52 year reign have been almost entirely lost to time besides this weird little anthropomorphic blob that was his signature!
