1/The collapse of the Government in Afghanistan this past week was so swift and complete - it was disorienting and difficult to comprehend.
This is how the events seemed to proceed from my perspective as Central Bank Governor.
Hackers from #Pakistan used Facebook to target people in #Afghanistan with connections to previous government during the Taliban takeover, reports @Reuters
"Targets included people connected to the government, military and law enforcement in #Kabul."

Well done @unicefchief! Direct payment of salaries to Afghan teachers & other public servants is the only way to avert sure collapse of health, education, water-supply, electricitry etc in Afghanistan. @WorldBank and UN must cover all sectors like this. https://t.co/INUaghbYye
.@aahmady, Former Governor, Da Afganistan Bank will be speaking at this year’s #NewEconomyForum in Singapore November 17-19. Check out this year's agenda: https://t.co/zupM4l7Zps
“Taliban bans foreign currencies”
This isn’t as large an issue as it first seems. Taliban are doing this because:
- There is limited foreign currency in the country
- They want to promote the use of local currency
Tough to enforce, in any regard

I am happy to announce that I am now a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School Center for Business & Government
I will conduct research related to Afghanistan & Central Banking
A number of professors made this possible - thank you to each of them!
Thanks @YarRostam
I wasn’t really expecting any thanks from the Taliban
But the Air Corridor was one of my proudest achievements. Hopefully it continues to benefit the Afghan business community
@aahmady established the #AirCorridor project in 2017.
Annual exports through AirCorridor was: $180Million
AFG hit $1B exports for the first time, when he was Minister of commerce in 2019
2day every #Talib is happy for it, d just did th ribbon cutting

“The Taliban are allowing education…The press is relatively free”?! What kind of journalism is this where someone wildly misrepresents reality and you don’t challenge him?
Btw happy day 45 of the vast majority of girls being forced out of secondary school.
Thank you @ghoshworld. Well said
“When dealing with Taliban, we should insist that there be women present”
Previous government was criticized when it had no women at meetings - even with women judges, diplomats, & ministers
Now aid agencies just cow-tail to Taliban protocol
I was responsible for TAPI in Afghanistan since 2015
The project won’t move forward for many reasons, one of which is that the TAPI “I” no longer has interest
FWIW, the Taliban has endorsed TAPI since 2016, even as it blew up all kinds of other infrastructure.
Due to ongoing financing constraints, it’s unlikely TAPI will be completed anytime soon even if security improves.
Mujahid’s statement sounds good but ultimately means little.
Sorry to all the fans back home and all around the world not giving you victory to celebrate and bring smile on your faces BUT Your support and prayers will be imp for the rest of the games.Thank you everyone for your msges 100th T20 international wkts 🇦🇫

I often get asked whether China could replace the financial power of the US/EU/WB/IMF in Afghanistan
I think this pledge clearly answers that question: $1M + $5M
China provided $1 million to Afghanistan and has promised to provide $5 million more in humanitarian aid, especially medicine and food, Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.

In Afghanistan, the @UN is staying and delivering, and will continue to promote and defend the rights of women and girls.
We will not stop until girls can go back to school, and women can return to their jobs and participate in public life.
Reflecting on his experience at the highest levels of the Afghan government, @aahmady examines the factors responsible for the country’s dramatic collapse.
