I’m so excited that this has been published - we really do need to learn so much more about pIBD-associated arthritis because of its large morbidity. Grateful for @BobbiBerard and @dreileenc for all their guidance and knowledge with this project!

Tonight I presented Aaida of @Oakridge_SS with the Arielle Kayabaga Citizenship Award at the schools’ convocation. This award recognizes a student that has shown genuine care about the welfare of others. Congratulations on your graduation, Aaida!
Today's #LdnOnt tragedy has hit me too close and too personally. But I want to share with you what I told my kids many times today:
1) I love you
2) Never, ever be afraid to be who you are
3) Never, ever question your place in this world

Back then, I had only seen SSc from an academic lens. Now, three years later, I've been able to see the real-life impact of this disease on patients' lives on my Rheumatology rotation. It just emphasizes how important it is that medicine and research go hand-in-hand.
So excited to have the work I did in my undergrad thesis be shared with others! If you want to learn more about translational research in scleroderma, follow the link here: https://t.co/BJK0CKLKYU

Done my first week of clerkship, and amazed at how much I’ve learned. Grateful to have been given this opportunity, and hope to keep learning with each new patient.
It’s easy to forget a case, hard to forget a person - a person with real pain, struggles, emotions. ❤️
When promoting health behaviours, you can’t play the blame game. You need to be able to educate and inform in an empathetic and respectful way. During a pandemic like this, we’re all responsible for how transmission occurs, including how we support those most affected.
Today, Ontario recorded the highest daily number of #COVID19 cases since early June.
67% of new cases are in people < 40 years old.
A creative, engaging & positive public health communications strategy for younger people is needed now.
Let's stop blaming & shaming.

People in their 20s are now disproportionately represented in new COVID-19 cases in Ontario.
Instead of shaming & blaming, I asked them what challenges they’re currently facing with respect to the pandemic.
After 100s of replies, some key themes emerged. Here they are:
divorcing public health from the economy is incredibly expensive.
a country that is sick can never be rich. and a country that attempts to be rich at the expense of the poor will be never be well.
I couldn’t imagine growing up without the library providing me access to all the books I’ve read, getting the opportunity that I may not have otherwise had. It’s amazing to see this happen, further increasing accessibility to books!
Halifax Public Libraries is eliminating fines for overdue books, saying that fines disproportionately affect vulnerable community members.
Nearly 38,000 people were blocked from borrowing due to past charges. They'll all get a blank slate.
#MedTwitter it's been one week since I took my last call as a fellow. I've been mulling over this for much longer, but never felt like I had power to say it.
This is in no way all-inclusive or specific to medical training, but it is my experience.
A thread about kindness:
It’s always the little things, and sometimes it’s hard to remember that you belong. These words get the feeling down and impart some much needed wisdom for BIPOC women👏🏽
I wrote this for BIPOC women starting their journey in academia, so that these cesspools of racism do not erode your precious self-esteem. ❤️🙏🏽

Super important as things start opening up - it’s easy to think of the danger as past, but we could get a second wave easily. We need to all be willing to step up and take this small and simple step to reduce transmission, so we continue getting back to relative normalcy safely.
"Combined w/ other non-pharmaceutical interventions including social distancing & mass contact tracing, a “mouth-&-nose lockdown” is far more sustainable than a “full body lockdown”, from economic, social, & mental health standpoints." #Masks4Canada

More than 50% of medical students come from the wealthiest 20% of American families. If medical schools want to change this, they need to pay to keep resources like these available:
“Racial health inequities are not signs of a system malfunction: they are the by-product of health care systems functioning as intended”
We need to advocate for our patients and change the system so it can service ALL our patients
