Members of the Bangladeshi diaspora in Paris and Seoul staged protests and condemned the killings of students in Bangladesh by Sheikh Hasina's government and security forces, demanding her immediate resignation.

Similar protests have taken place in multiple major cities around the world.

From 16th July until today, 168 people have lost their lives. Among the dead are mostly university students, who were shot by members of the Bangladesh police and RAB, while some were hacked to death by ruling party student wing members.

BANGLADESH 🇧🇩 : The Government must immediately overturn the curfew with a ‘shoot on sight’ order that grants excessive powers to the security forces.

The curfew must be urgently lifted, and all the people detained or arrested solely for exercising their right to protest peacefully should be immediately and unconditionally released.

BA 6047 Lieutenant Colonel Redwanul Islam was seen shooting at the student protestors yesterday. Redwanul, who served at @UNPeacekeeping a few years ago, also served with the @USTreasury sanctioned Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Special Security Force (SSF) of Bangladesh. In the footage, BA 6047 Redwanul was captured shooting at unarmed civilians, which is a clear violation of the rules of engagement.

This is what the Bangladesh government and its supporters have said over the last 15 years: "Our elections are free and fair". A lie. "We have freedom of speech in Bangladesh". A lie. "We do not secretly detain and disappear people" A lie. "Our courts are independent." A lie. "The opposition are terrorists." So many lies. And now in response to the current killings by law enforcement authorities (current confirmed number: 155) and the resulting violence by the protestors, the authorities are lying again.

The Home Minister Asauzzaman Khan told journalists on Saturday that "Not many people were killed in police firing. They (protesters) are the ones who are firing. I have seen quite a few members of our Chhatra League ( student wing of the ruling Awami League party) and our leaders and activists were injured. The style ( of the violence) shows that Jamaat and BNP [Bangladesh opposition parties] have done it together."
