“The Local Government Association, on behalf of our councils, are hugely disappointed that measures were not taken today by the Chancellor to plug the huge financial gap that we have in councils.”
LGA Chair, @CllrShaunDavies gives our response to today’s #AutumnStatement
📽️👇
As we head towards winter, families relying on welfare benefits, many of whom are working households, are in desperate need.
Ahead of the Autumn Statement this week, I've written to the Chancellor asking that welfare benefits are uprated at least in line with inflation.
Standing charges should be scrapped; they are unfair and arbitrary.
Energy suppliers have announced record profits this year at a time when customers are struggling & are being forced onto PPM’s.
We need a social tariff now & the complete reform of our energy sector.

A day is a long time in politics..
Yesterday: Sunak scraps HS2 Phase 2, saying that £1bn will electrify the North Wales mainline instead.
Today: the Welsh Secretary admits £1bn isn't enough!
North Wales deserves better than a rattled UK Govt making up policy on the hoof.
Any claim that #HS2 is an England and Wales scheme is over. It is clear that HS2, or the remnants of it, is an England-only scheme.
The UK Government now needs to step up and give Wales the money we are already owed from this failed project
We were told Wales wouldn't be given billions of pounds in HS2 consequential funding because HS2 was going to Crewe (!!).
Now, the closest it will get to Wales is Birmingham - so, when will Wales be getting our £2bn @RishiSunak? 🤔
In a joint statement, the politicians said: “We have facilitated a meeting between Flintshire Council and the Welsh Government to seek to move towards a more pragmatic approach where more roads are brought back to 30mph in Flintshire.”... https://t.co/pNL2Pzj1Sp
Improving insulation reduces bills as well as carbon emissions - a win-win!
Sunak's removal of home insulation targets and regulations is yet another climate crime - one designed to benefit fossil fuel companies and unscrupulous landlords.
I've received 10 carbon monoxide alarms from @BritishGas to give away to good causes in Alyn and Deeside as part of last week's Gas Safety Week. The first 10 organisations in the constituency to email [email protected] will receive an alarm. #GSW23

It’s what @SeneddPetitions recommended - As Chair, I am looking forward to hearing the progress that the Workforce Partnership Council working group on the 4-day working week has made later this year.

I very much welcome the Welsh Government consulting on rent controls for private tenants.
It is clear that the free market has failed to provide adequate and affordable housing in Wales.
A robust rent control system should not shy away from rent decreases where necessary.
Pleased to host @ClimateCymru & @ThisWinterUK in the Senedd today & reaffirm my support for their campaign to ensure people in Cymru can live in warm, energy-efficient homes they can afford.

I'm concerned to hear of Welsh Water's incorrect reporting of leakage data, undervaluing the amount leaked by 82 million litres per day.
All customers will be given a £10 rebate on their bills, but we must also see radical action to clean up the water industry once and for all.
At the last meeting of Flintshire County Council, I was delighted that Councillors supported me in ensuring that the rights of trans people in Flintshire are protected at a time when they are under attack from Westminster.
People shouldn’t have to wait any longer for basic rights over their own homes.
The UK Government needs to stick by their promise and tear up the arcane leasehold system and immediately bring forward new laws that end this scandal and support people and their families.
The Social Partnership and Public Procurement Act is now law in Wales, so it's important to consider what it means for workers and where we go from here.
In a new blog, @liam_perry1 explains how the Act works and how it will benefit workers and unions 👇

For the last couple of years, I have been working with @foecymrucydd and @JoeCooke57 to campaign for doors to be put on supermarket fridge doors in Wales.
I am delighted that the new Wales Retail Forum Action Plan includes an aim to retrofit doors - saving money and carbon! 🛒🛍️
