Three doors. People streaming in. One hand free, because the other one is seating a visitor β and someone is asking you where the children's church is.
Somewhere in that, you are supposed to be counting.
Then at the end of the month, all of it has to become one number that somebody can defend.
That is the room Usha was built for.
The counter is the heart of it. Built for one thumb, with big targets placed for the hand you actually hold the phone in β you tell it left or right when you set up. Tap as people walk in: men, women, children, with first timers and new converts counted on the same screen as you seat them, instead of being reconstructed from memory afterwards. Your running total sits in front of you. The section turns amber as it fills and red when it reaches capacity, using the seat counts your own parish entered.
And attendance cannot be typed into Usha. Not on any screen. A number you can type is a number that can be quietly adjusted later to match what somebody expected, with nothing in the record to show it happened. The counter is the only door in.
Around it:
Every usher is posted to a section before the service, and the counter opens straight onto theirs β no hunting through a list while people are walking past.
Each usher gets their own link. They open it and the app already knows the parish, the sections, the seats, the roster and their role. Nothing to set up. Nothing to type wrong.
Every count, every check, every correction is recorded with a name and a time, and nothing in that trail can be edited or deleted. When a figure is questioned in December, the answer is in the record rather than in somebody's memory.
And all of it works offline. Usha installs to the home screen and runs with your data switched off β a whole service counted in a hall with no signal, nothing lost. That wasn't a feature added late. It was the constraint we designed around from the first day, because that is the room this app actually lives in.
We are starting the pilot with RCCG parishes, free of charge.
That's where it starts because that's what's already built in β the reporting period that runs from third Sunday to third Sunday, the giving types, the remittance breakdown, the Area and Province a figure has to be read against.
But counting a congregation is not an RCCG problem. It is every church's problem. The denomination-specific parts of Usha are a layer, not the foundation β when it is ready, Usha is for any church that counts a service and keeps a record.
If you are a head usher, a parish pastor, or the person who ends up assembling the monthly figures, and you would like your parish in the pilot β comment below or send me a message.

A critic who never engaged the full argument is a poor candidate for βanointed donkey.β
That is the heart of the issue. In Numbers 22 the donkey did not speak from a clip, a headline, or second-hand outrage. It saw the angel standing in the road. The rebuke had force because it was based on what was actually there, not on a fragment that could be made to sound like something else.
