I never days anything ends. But AI development speed matching Linux development speed would probably be a bad thing.

I think that the companies doing the expensive research can only afford to do that if they get paid enough to do it.

If their work is immediately distilled and released at open source within 3 weeks then it would be hard for them to operate. This is presuming that there is no talk development happening in open source and it's all distillation. I don't know if that's true but it's at least partly true.

A significance component of the economic expansion is the historic investment in compute. This investment is largely being made by frontier labs based on their ability to monetize. If they are unable to monetize they are unable to invest at these levels and that will have repercussions throughout the economy.

I do agree that no one cares if it's open source or closed source and in fact they probably care about Data sovereignty more.
