This Independence Day is the most patriotic I have felt so far this decade of the 2020s. Between the scamdemic and the entirety of whichever fiends were actually conducting the presidency on Biden's incompetent behalf, I was just too at war with my government/institutions from 2020-24 -- on behalf of what this day stands for -- to revel all that much in this moment.
Bluntly, it didn't seem like we were a country worthy of patriotic revelry, while I still appreciated I was blessed to live here. But patriotic revelry requires more than mere gratitude. It requires adherence to the sources of said patriotism.
We have a long way to go to sustain for another 249 years that which our Founders pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honors on this day 249 years ago. The generational hole we have dug is deep. However, I feel a sense of purpose and mission among us I haven't felt before. Which is why this year, right now, I am flirting with optimism for the first time in many a moon.
So patriotic revelry it is!
