What a total waste of money…..#MarbleArchMound is dying and now estimated to cost £6m…..when existing parks and green spaces are crying out for investment.
@talklandscape https://t.co/5yHG0pmSN5
Came to ‘marvel’ at the mound! Why not it’s free? Not even on the first step and lady behind me, “What the fuck is it supposed to be?” A job well done lads.
Ministers knew that the Delta variant had entered the UK on 1 April but it took *22 days* for India to be placed on the Red List.
This delay was not inevitable but an avoidable political failure. https://t.co/YBRy2PWAuk
Contemptuous. A new "play area" in Hednesford. Planning authority: @CannockChaseDC. All those responsible should hang their heads in shame. @PlanningShit one for the archives.
A child aged 7 will have spent almost 1/5 of their life under the shadow of Covid-19. Just imagine scaling that up to your own age. And it's not over yet. We owe children so much. 'Catching up' doesn't even begin to cover it.
@rafagomo@SennettRichard@AdaColau@carrersalvador@bcn_ajuntament So essentially, we should plan and design for things to turn out different to what we expect, to change with the context, and to become more complex (and not so pristine). But you raise a very good point so thank you! Hope this all makes sense and helps a bit :) (3)
"We're doing ourselves a disservice by valuing cleanliness as a measure of the quality of our communtiy" - Richard Sennett, UN Senior Advisor on Climate Change #festivalofplace
Design places for disorder. Play, diversity, fun and community don't come from ordered places.
@rafagomo@SennettRichard@AdaColau@carrersalvador@bcn_ajuntament where we want everything to be polished, ordered, tidy, and uniform, as this kind of "cleanlieness" surpresses creativity and imaginative play (and also require more maintenance, funds and energy). Diversity within both social and physical spaces is key for community too. (2)
@rafagomo@SennettRichard@AdaColau@carrersalvador@bcn_ajuntament Thanks for adding this, it's an important issue to highlight. I don't think that this was quite the intention of the statement, however - obviously this amount of litter and waste is bad. I believe it was more about a "pristine" society (1)
This is your reminder that Gavin Williamson re-opened schools without adequate safety measures in place.
43,000 children and 114,000 teaching staff in the UK are living with long Covid.
Williamson claims that kids "lack discipline & order."
Its high time for Williamson to go.
What could #rewilding in the UK look like?
Rebecca Wrigley from @RewildingB spoke today at the @talklandscape#GreenerRecovery event about rewilding both our urban and rural spaces, and shared this amazing inspiring image. This is possible by 2030 - if we start now!
#LICPDDAY
This wasn't of course the only solution to public safety discussed, but nonetheless, a crucial consideration for #urbandesigners and #planners as we re-evaluate how we can make our #publicspace more inclusive and safe.
Mixed-use public space is used more frequently throughout the entire day/night cycle, which increases public presence & therefore improves safety for women and vulnerable people.
An interesting takeaway from @i_smadariaga at today's @festivalofplace session. #festivalofplace
