Here is some fabulous news from TN. The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Government Institute of Child Health Egmore, Chennai set up at a cost of Rs 5.9 crore, began operations in September 2024. It provides life-saving and curative treatment for blood disorders like thalassemia, aplastic anemia and blood cancers for children. In just four months, three transplants were performed saving poor families Rs 15–20 lakh in expenses per patient (cost covered under CM insurance). We plan to make ICH a regional referral hub to treat children coming from poor families with the best treatment and care. All three children are currently doing well.
