The Ukrainians have gone on the offensive. They're issuing threats and openly interfering in the Hungarian elections. Their goal is to secure funds and force their way into the European Union as soon as possible.

As a member of the European Union, Hungary has the right to say no. Our patriotic government clearly says no.

We do not want Hungarian families’ money to be sent to Ukraine, and we do not want Hungary to be dragged into a war.

We must show that Hungarians cannot be threatened or intimidated. We are not built that way. Alongside Brussels, we send a clear message to Kyiv as well: we will not pay!

As #EUCO approaches, a solution is beginning to take shape with which Brusselian bureaucrats will attempt to force the financing of Ukraine’s two years of war expenditures down our throats. Once again, the solution is the supposed wonder weapon: joint borrowing. If necessary, even without consensus. Those who do not want it will still have it imposed on them, and will be paying the interest for decades.

This means permanently missing the chance for a swift end to the Russia–Ukraine war. We are moving in the direction of escalation and one thing is certain: even our grandchildren will be burdened by the consequences of this war.

Nevertheless, Hungary must navigate this minefield. This Thursday, and in the years to come.

Today, the Brusselians are crossing the Rubicon. At noon, a written vote will take place that will cause irreparable damage to the Union.

The subject of the vote is the frozen Russian assets, on which the EU member states have so far voted every 6 months and adopted a unanimous decision. With today’s procedure, the Brusselians are abolishing the requirement of unanimity with a single stroke of the pen, which is clearly unlawful.

With today’s decision, the rule of law in the European Union comes to an end, and Europe’s leaders are placing themselves above the rules. Instead of safeguarding compliance with the EU treaties, the European Commission is systematically raping European law. It is doing this in order to continue the war in Ukraine, a war that clearly isn't winnable. All this is happening in broad daylight, less than a week before the meeting of the European Council, the Union’s most important decision-making body, bringing together heads of state and government. With this, the rule of law in the European Union is being replaced by the rule of bureaucrats. In other words, a Brusselian dictatorship has taken hold.

Hungary protests this decision and will do everything in its power to restore a lawful order.

The US-backed peace plan that has been revealed contains key pillars for the future security of Europe and, above all, it would not divide the world into blocs but would help rebuild relations.

The plan proposes lifting sanctions and reintegrating Russia into the global economy. Since the breakdown of the European-Russian relationship, the European economy has faced obstacles that were previously unknown, so this would serve our own interests.

The contrast is striking. While the Americans are putting forward a peace plan, Brussels and European leaders want to hand another €100 billion to Ukraine to prolong the war.

We call on European politicians not to undermine the American efforts for peace. We hope this plan can be adopted soon so that peace can finally return and the money of European citizens no longer flows without control into the pockets of a war mafia.

I received a letter today from President @vonderleyen. She writes that Ukraine’s financing gap is significant and asks member states to send more money. It's astonishing. At a time when it has become clear that a war mafia is siphoning off European taxpayers’ money, instead of demanding real oversight or suspending payments, the Commission President suggests we send even more. This whole matter is a bit like trying to help an alcoholic by sending them another crate of vodka. Hungary has not lost its common sense.

For years now, the functioning of the Ukrainian state has been financed with the money of European citizens. Meanwhile, corruption is out of control in Ukraine, so it’s no surprise that no one has ever seen a clear accounting of how the EU funds were actually spent.

Since President @realDonaldTrump’s re-election, new opportunities have emerged in Hungarian–American relations. The first ten months of this year marked the initial phase, during which we repaired the damage Hungary and Hungarian–American relations suffered under the Biden administration. The politically motivated sanctions have disappeared, American funding for NGOs attacking Hungary has ended, and we can once again travel to the United States without a visa. With this, the first phase has come to an end.

Today, we are travelling to Washington to open a new chapter in Hungarian–American relations with President Trump. Our goal is to establish a strategic partnership that includes energy cooperation, investments, defence collaboration, and discussions on the post-war landscape following the Russia–Ukraine conflict. We are working on an agreement based on mutual benefits, one that serves the interests of every Hungarian citizen.

Today, President @ZelenskyyUa once again attacked Hungary and the Hungarian government at a conference in Brussels with a variety of accusations.

So let us look at the facts.

As for support: Hungary has taken in refugees from Ukraine, there have been more than 14 million border crossings from Ukraine since the beginning of the war, we operate three Ukrainian schools in our country, we have taken care of wounded soldiers and children, hosted more than ten thousand Ukrainian children at camps in Hungary, trained medical staff, rebuilt schools and kindergartens in Ukraine, and last year we were Ukraine’s largest electricity supplier. So far, we have spent a total of 200 million euros on humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians. It is unfortunate if this means nothing to President Zelenskyy.

I would also draw the President’s attention to the fact that the support Ukraine receives from the European Union includes Hungarian money as well. We are not happy about it, but it is still a fact.

I must reject the suggestion that Hungary owes Ukraine anything. Ukraine does not defend Hungary from anyone or anything. We did not ask for such a thing, and we never will. The security of Hungary is guaranteed by our national defence capabilities and by NATO, of which Ukraine is (fortunately) not a member.

Finally, I would like to remind the President that the decision on a country’s accession to the European Union is made by the member states, unanimously. This means that every member state has the sovereign right to support or oppose the admission of a new member. Hungary does not and will not support Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, because it would bring the war into Europe and take the money of Hungarians out to Ukraine.

We believe the Union should enter into a strategic partnership with Ukraine without EU membership. This is our proposal. We will stick to this position in the future, as we have every right to do so.

⁨⁨According to The Economist, Ukraine would need $400 billion over the next four years to continue the war. Weapons, reconstruction, pensions, salaries… and once again, Europe is expected to foot the bill. There’s no one else left willing to pick up the tab.

That’s why Brussels is so agitated. That’s why they want to seize frozen Russian assets, overhaul the EU funding system, and take on new loans. We reject this. It’s not Hungary’s job to finance Ukraine. We have no reason to do so: not politically, not economically, not morally.

We are not alone in Europe, but we speak the most openly. That’s why Brussels keeps attacking us. They want a “jawohl government”, with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, EU-compliant economic policies, Brussels-approved experts, and a prime minister they can control.

In the next four years, we will support Hungarian families, Hungarian businesses, and Hungarian pensioners. That is why we are introducing tax exemption for mothers with two or three children, extending our 3% loan scheme to businesses, and bringing back the 14th-month pension.

We cannot allow Hungarians’ money to be sent to Ukraine!⁩

💶 Brussels has no money of its own. It uses our money, the money of the member states, to finance the war in Ukraine. Over 20% of the next EU budget is proposed to go to Ukraine while Europe’s economy is in deep trouble. Financing war with debt and tax hikes is not a strategy, it is a road to ruin. It’s time for peace, it's time to rebuild Europe!
