KENYAN PILGRIMS SUCCESSFULLY SETTLE IN MINA AS HAJJ RITES CONTINUE

Kenyan pilgrims have safely arrived in Mina and settled into their tents ahead of the Days of Tashreeq. The Kenya Hajj Mission remains committed to ensuring a smooth, safe and spiritually rewarding Hajj for all.

The Kenya Hajj Mission (SUPKEM) led by chairman Hassan Ole Naado has completed digital allocation of Mina & Arafat tents. All pilgrims with valid Hajj visas and Nusuk cards are guaranteed accommodation. Kenya’s 2026 Hajj contingent stands at 4,583 pilgrims and service personnel.

H.E. Joseph Masila together with Ambassador Adan Mohammed, Kenya Consul General Jeddah, launched a 5-day Passport Application Facilitation Exercise at the Kenya Consulate General in Jeddah. The exercise which is being spearheaded by the Kenya Mission in Riyadh, aims to facilitate Kenyans in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region to apply new, renew or replace lost and mutilated passports in accordance with Chapter 3, Article 12 of the Constitution of Kenya, a constitutional right for every Kenyan.

Kenyans turned up in large numbers for the exercise and were appreciative of this special initiative.

Amb. Masila interracted and addressed those who had turned up assuring them that the exercise would be carried out in Jeddah quarterly as part of the Consular outreach to Kenyans within the region by both the Kenya Mission in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah. The exercise would also be extended to other major cities in Saudi Arabia, so as to serve as many Kenyans as possible. Ambassador Masila furrther urged Kenyans to inform others within the Makkah Al Mukarramah Region so that they can take advantage of the 5 days the services are being offered in the Jeddah Consulate. He also assured Kenyans that the next phase will cover Identity cards and birth certificates.

The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) expresses deep gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, for its ongoing support of the Kenyan Muslim community. We appreciate the Kingdom's commitment to enhancing Islamic education, promoting authentic Da'wah, and fostering religious moderation globally.

Today, on behalf of SUPKEM, I signed a three-year Executive Program for Cooperation in Islamic Affairs with His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This partnership signifies our shared commitment to strengthening religious cooperation, promoting authentic Islamic teachings, combating extremism, and enhancing the capacity of religious leaders and institutions in Kenya.

We extend our sincere thanks to His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. We pray that this partnership benefits the citizens of both nations and the Muslim community at large. I was joined in this ceremony by Amb. The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Board of Governors passed resolution No. BG/14/99 to assist Muslim minority communities in non-member countries, aiming to enhance their well-being and enable them to become productive citizens. This led to the establishment of the Communities Outreach Programme in 1981, which has since focused on socio-economic development and inclusive growth for these communities.

The Programme provides support in education, health, entrepreneurship, women's empowerment, and youth development. It ensures quality assurance of IsDB contributions, adhering to its laws and financial regulations.

Earlier today (02/12/2025), a follow-up meeting took place at the Consulate of the Republic of Kenya in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, led by Consul General H.E. Ambassador Adan Mohamud Mohamed and attended by IsDB representatives, including Mr. Hamid Mohsin Kerraouch, the Country Manager for Non-Member States. The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has a long-standing partnership with the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), collaborating for decades in the development of Islamic institutions and scholarship in Kenya. To date, 369 Kenyan Muslims have benefited from quality education through this partnership. Additionally, the bank has contributed over $20 million towards various development projects in the country throughout the years of collaboration with the Council.

Although Kenya is not a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, IsDB has worked closely with the Muslim community through SUPKEM, which holds a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the bank as its Counterpart (CP). This arrangement enables Muslims to access the bank's Special Programs.

Today, I had a productive meeting with the IsDB technical team to evaluate our partnership and propose new potential projects.

In the coming days, the bank and the Council will develop a community engagement framework aimed at enhancing our partnership for greater impact. I was joined in this meeting by the Consul General of the Republic of Kenya in Jeddah, Ambassador Adan Mohamud, Deputy Consul General Mr. Abarufa Jillo, and Mr. Hassan Jumale from the Kenyan embassy in Riyadh. The IsDB team was led by Mr. Issa Faye, Director General of Global Practice & Partnerships, along with other senior managers from the bank. I am excited to announce a significant development for our Kenyan Muslim community. The Kenya Hajj Mission, under the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. This agreement allows for 4,500 Kenyan pilgrims to participate in the 2026 Hajj season (1447 in the Islamic calendar).

During the signing ceremony, I had the honor of representing Kenya as the National Chairman of SUPKEM and President of the Kenya Hajj Mission, alongside Sheikh Abdullahi Salat, our Secretary General, and Mr. Jillo Falana, the Deputy Consul General of Kenya in Jeddah. We were joined by distinguished representatives from Saudi Arabia, including His Excellency Dr. Abdulfattah Suliman Almashat, the Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah Affairs, and others who emphasized the importance of our partnership.

This agreement signifies our commitment to enhancing the Hajj experience for our pilgrims and strengthening the ties between Kenya and Saudi Arabia in matters of faith. The opportunity for thousands of Kenyans to perform Hajj is a profound chance for spiritual rejuvenation and unity.

Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a vital journey for Muslims worldwide, a time for reflection, prayer, and community. The participation of our pilgrims in this sacred journey highlights their devotion.

As we prepare for this occasion, our focus will be on ensuring all logistical arrangements are in place to support our pilgrims, from pre-departure preparations to their stay in Saudi Arabia.

This collaboration serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of our collective spirit as we embark on this once-in-a-lifetime journey, InshaAllah. I also extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya and the Saudi Embassy for their guidance and support. Following the inauguration of our Consulate in Jedda earlier today, I met with representatives of the Kenyan diaspora in this region of Saudi. I conveyed to them government commitment towards ensuring greater mainstreaming of diaspora interests in governance and economic sectors and thanked them for being our country’s foremost ambassadors. They in turn expressed appreciation for government’s decision to open the consulate as this would accelerate service delivery towards them and pledged their support to ambassador Adan Mohammed and Team. @ForeignOfficeKE @Diaspora_KE
