A3: I used text sets to go along with our genre or unit studies this year. I did a lot with tall tales, early civilization, poetry, and fables/folktales. My librarian is amazing. I would just tell her a unit we were working on and shed find lots of books for us to try! #undtl528
A6: I found the youtube summary very beneficial. I use it daily in my classroom and even at home. I am excited to try the kids you tube for a better way censor pop ups, ads, and content. I really appreciated the research done on this "other text". #UNDTL528
@MrsGuttormson I agree! I want to make sure to use the whole book approach more as well. Time is such a factor most days but I believe it is so important at any grade level. I think it too will help students understand authors purpose more and to appreciate books more too. #undtl528
A5: I really need to focus on the peritextual elements more. I tend to go quickly through those so I have enough time. But I need to make time for this. I also want to introduce the genre names more to my students. #UNDTL528
@MrsGuttormson I look forward to using more graphic novels as well. I can't wait to use some of the nonfiction ones. I didn't even realize we had those in our library! My students will love them. #undtl528
@CarleyNelson14 I completely agree. I never realized how little I had on different cultures in my classroom! It was very eye opening for me too. #undtl528
A4: I really enjoyed learning about graphic novels. This is something my students have really become interested in the last couple of years. Im glad I had the chance to sit down and understand them better! #UNDTL528
@brhenderson18 We had quite a few great picture books available in our school library that I borrowed. I tried looking online now for the exact titles/authors but couldn't find the ones I used this year. I will look in the library next week and let you know the authors/exact titles! #undtl528
@CarleyNelson14 I really like this idea. In 2nd grade we do a research unit on animals at a local zoo. They then get to see their animal on a field trip in the spring. I love the idea of using a text set to help with the different types of animals and habitats too. Thanks for the idea! #undtl528
@CarleyNelson14 This is a wonderful idea! I may be stealing it for my 2nd grade class. They would love to compare and contrast the way of life back then to the way we live now. Thanks for sharing! #undtl528
@CarleyNelson14 I absolutely love these books too. Some of my students still love them! They teach so much about the way of living on the prairie. Its fun to compare to our world now. My students are often shocked and can't even imagine a world without technology! #undtl528
@christinakowa17 Theres actually old books that the American Girl dolls kind of originated from. They are amazing. There are newer books too but I prefer the old ones! #undtl528
A1: My favorite historical fiction texts would have to be the American Girl series. I recently reread one for our assignment and I love how much I learned even as an adult! I was even engaged and learned a lot too! #undtl528
A2: I have not done much with historical fiction but can't wait to start. I hope to engage my students with historical fiction prior to or during a social studies unit. This way it will help them understand the time frame/way of life of the unit of study we are doing. #undtl528
@Miss_Peden@MrWragge4 Does your school use it school wide? or just certain grades? We are trying to decide if a common program K-6 at least would be beneficial? Thank you! #undtl528
@brhenderson18 I love this idea. They would love making these! I wonder if there is any kind of program or app out there to help it look more like a graphic novel? I will have to do some searching! #undtl528
