@am19am99 @jamieisjames I’m thinking of how the “transliteration” of Hindi to English is really common throughout Indian & Bollywood culture, and how several speakers agree on particular “English” spellings for Hindi words

@am19am99 @jamieisjames This is such an interesting and important question. I feel like our typical, pseudo-descriptivist response is, “spelling is irrelevant”. But spelling (especially with loanwords and transliteration) is ✨so✨ fascinating, and needs to be a more common object of analysis!
