Hosted by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto at the State House Mombasa, with fellow leaders, we joined the members of the Muslim community for an Iftar dinner, marking a moment of gratitude and unity during the holy month of Ramadan.

As we considered the values of compassion, discipline and care for others that define this sacred season, the evening also served as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our people.

Fasting during Ramadan speaks to the deeper connection between spiritual devotion, personal discipline and healthy living; principles that resonate strongly with our commitment to advancing preventive healthcare and wellness for all Kenyans, under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Agenda.

The gathering, also graced by the ODM Party Leader, Senator Oburu Oginga, underscored the spirit of the Broad-Based Government and the shared national commitment to strengthening cohesion, dialogue and collective purpose across political and social divides.

Somali community, we must be careful about the move we make in 2027. Other communities have many clans but remain united. Kikuyu have about 12 clans, Luo more than 15, Kisii 9, Kamba about 14 yet they move as one.We Somalis are only about 5 major clans but we are still divided. The Somali community must start asking hard questions. A governor’s seat is a two term position, and after those terms our leaders should be aiming higher positions like Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary, Prime Cabinet Secretary, or even Deputy President.Instead, we see the opposite. After serving two terms as governor, Ali Roba moves to the Senate. Recently at a wedding, in front of more than 500 people, Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir openly said he is comfortable running for the Senate seat after his governorship. The same pattern can be seen with leaders like Nathif Jama Adam.This is exactly the problem. Instead of expanding our political influence nationally, we keep recycling leadership within the same positions.Look at other communities: leaders from the Coast region are boldly positioning themselves for the Deputy President’s seat, even with a population of about 2.5 million. The Kisii community, roughly 3 million, speak openly about aiming for the presidency. The Kamba community, around 4 million, are also pushing for the top seat.Meanwhile, the Somali community in Kenya is estimated at about 6.5 million people yet our political ambition is shrinking instead of growing. We should be fighting to sit at the highest decision-making tables in this country, not stepping down the ladder after major leadership roles Our community deserves leaders who think bigger, aim higher, and represent our true political weight in Kenya. We made a mistake during Kibaki’s time. We gave him two terms he performed exceptionally well and just when his experience and momentum were at their peak the Constitution forced him out.
I believe that if Kibaki had been given one or two more terms Kenya could have reached a level comparable to Singapore. This brings an important question: Is it wise to remove a leader who is clearly performing? Today with Ruto we risk repeating the same mistake. The first term is often spent cleaning up the mess left by the previous administration. Two terms are simply not enough to fully implement a long-term national agenda. If a leader is delivering results, stability and continuity matter.
