The Irro administration may insist it has taken steps to resolve the #evisa crisis, but its handling of the situation exposes a clear unwillingness to confront the real issue. The problem was never the transit passengers passing through #Hargeisa. It is the airlines—carriers that knowingly disregarded Somaliland’s immigration regulations, which explicitly allow travelers to obtain visas upon arrival.
Instead of holding these airlines accountable, the government has chosen to divert attention. Its actions amount to little more than posturing—gestures designed to look like it has addressed the problem, while sidestepping the substance of the crisis. The slow-walking and hesitation suggests not merely incompetence but the possibility of quiet accommodation: that the administration may be comfortable with, or even colluding with the failed state e-visa, all the while pretending to counter the crisis publicly. Such a shallow, hesitant response is not just ineffective; it raises serious questions about intent. By failing to enforce its own policies and permitting the failed state to override its regulations, the administration undermines its own authority and its sovereignty.
If the government were genuinely committed to resolving the issue, it would confront the carriers directly, demand compliance with #Somaliland’s immigration laws, and protect the integrity of its visa system. Until it does, its statements remain a smokescreen—an attempt to mask inaction and an alarming willingness to tolerate violations of its sovereignty. The next unfolding crisis is the maritime e-CTN system of the failed state required by vessels bound to Berbera Port.

Citizens across Somaliland are expressing deep alarm and outrage over recent developments that directly threaten the nation’s sovereignty and dignity.

A newly introduced E-Visa system now requires Somaliland citizens to seek travel authorization through Mogadishu—a move widely condemned as an unacceptable act of subjugation. For many Somalilanders, this evokes painful memories of the military regime, when travelers were forced to journey to Xamar only to be stranded there for months in endless queues. Today, history seems to be repeating itself, as Somalilanders once again find themselves stranded at airports—a situation unseen in more than three decades since Somaliland’s reassertion of independence in 1991.

This new policy effectively places #Somaliland under the authority of Villa Somalia, undermining the hard-won sovereignty and self-governance that the nation has exercised for over thirty-five years.
Equally disturbing was the recent revelation of a planned symposium on Somalia’s constitution—to be held inside Somaliland’s capital—which reportedly aimed to discuss Somaliland’s so-called “role” and “representation” within that framework. Thanks to vigilant citizens who raised the alarm, the event was exposed and swiftly shut down. Still, for many, even the attempt to organize such a conference on Somaliland soil is seen as a blatant betrayal of the nation’s sovereignty and right to self-determination.

These alarming developments have ignited widespread shock and anger among Somalilanders, while their elected leaders remain conspicuously silent.
