Somalia's federal government said today's armed and suicide attacks targeting Baidoa were carried out jointly by forces loyal to former South West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen and al-Shabaab militants. According to the government, Laftagareen is sitting in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, negotiating with the terrorists and personally issuing attack orders from there.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Somali Armed Forces this morning inflicted a major defeat on Al-Shabaab terrorists and militias loyal to Laftagareen, which have merged, after they launched an attack on Baidoa that began with explosions.
The Armed Forces bravely repelled the attack, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers. They remain in full control of the city and are pursuing the fleeing militants.
The allied terrorist militias fled, abandoning their dead and wounded.
Further details will be released in due course.
Turkish F-16 departed Mogadishu's Aden Adde International Airport on Monday, as heavy fighting continued in the southwestern city of Baidoa. The Turkish fighter jets are deployed in Somalia as part of Türkiye's support for the Somali government's fight against terrorism, particularly against Al-Shabaab.
The clashes in Baidoa involve Somali federal forces, Al-Shabaab militants, and forces loyal to Laftagareen.
Baidoa, the administrative capital of South West State, lies about 250 kilometers northwest of Mogadishu.
Ceelbuur is an ancient city rich in history, culture, and memories passed down through generations. 🏜️
One of the landmarks the city has long been known for is its natural stone formations, which have stood for generations as symbols of Ceelbuur’s natural beauty and historical heritage. These stones and the surrounding city are part of the area’s collective memory and cultural heritage, bearing witness to the long history of Ceelbuur and its people.
Break away from a country, you need a territory with clear borders that can actually be separated. Said Deni does not have one. Bari and Nugaal, the two regions that make up the heart of Puntland, refuse to leave Somalia. Sanaag is claimed by three sides at once: Puntland, Khaatumo and Somaliland. The people of North Galkayo and Galdogob in Mudug also say no. When every region that refuses is taken off the map, all that is left of Deni's "Independent Puntland" is his home district of Jariban and the small group around him. One district and one clan do not make a country.
Somaliland's Irro spoke in Washington of "reasonable grounds" for secession. The grounds nations actually recognize are different ethnicity, language, religion, or a history of genocide between peoples who cannot live together. Puntland shares all four with the rest of Somalia. "We don't like Hassan Sheikh" is not a legal basis for a state.
Neither Puntland nor Somaliland can secede, because the people they claim to speak for have not agreed to it. The idea did not come from Bosaso or Hargeisa. It came from Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv, and its purpose is not two new countries but one more divided Somalia, kept in fragments for another thirty years.
When a man forgets who he is and begins to walk against his own values, the road ends at one of two doors: he either becomes a caricature everyone laughs at, or he can no longer lift his head and look anyone in the eye out of shame. Whoever sells his identity loses first his dignity, then his face. In the end, only three cities remain where he can walk freely: Hargeisa, Dubai and Tel Aviv. New York taught him that no street beyond those belongs to him.
What a dramatic downfall for Abdirahman Duale Beyle. He has abandoned his convictions-assuming he possessed any genuine convictions to begin with-for a pittance to the secessionist in Hargeisa while his people in Awdal are suffering!
I expose @DrBeileh Senior Economic Advisor to the Presidency in Somaliland. And let him know that the world sees him as a sellout. He had to know what a real Muslim is. How the hell can you stand with our oppressor and stand with us at the same time? You guys are liars looking for your own interestS
For two years, Bosaso's runway fed the RSF's war in Sudan. Now Puntland's Deni writes to the UN complaining about "foreign armed groups" in Somalia.
https://t.co/nWTxbU04HY
Said Deni opened Bosaso to the UAE and RSF militias and ran the Somali leg of a supply line that led to the deaths of more than 10.000 + of civilians in Sudan.
Now, without shame, he writes to the @UN to complain about Somalia. The letter is full of lies from top to bottom, but the real point is this: the blood of the tens of thousands who died in Al Fashir and Darfur passed through that runway.
And today the same man tells the UN that "there are foreign armed groups in Somalia." No one knows foreign armed groups better than he does; he hosted them for two years.
