I welcome the successful conclusion of the IMF Staff Article IV Consultation Mission to Somalia last week.
As is evident, our efforts to advance key national reforms and maintain economic stability, despite the significant internal and external shocks, is paying dividend. We are proud that we remain on track to attain 2.3 percent growth in 2026, and 2.7 percent in 2027, despite all the existing global challenges impacting #Somalia.
As we go forward, our government will continue to prioritise preserving macroeconomic stability by: accelerating domestic revenue mobilization, maintaining spending discipline, enhancing public financial and debt management, and strengthening financial supervision and inclusion.
Please refer to the IMF press release below for full details.

That’s not quite accurate.Around 73% of Somalia’s population lives below the international poverty line of $3 per day, which shows the scale of poverty remains extremely serious.
Even though Somalia has been going through a rough period for decades when it comes to poverty, it’s still doing better than many of our neighboring countries.
When you’re appointed to public office in Somalia, they actually expect you to be a thief. If you don’t steal, they say you’re not wise.
Your relatives will ask you, “Meeqa ka qabsatay?”—meaning, “How many houses have you built? How much land have you bought?”
Here we go again.
Ethiopia, through the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, @ifa_ethiopia, dismembers Somalia on an official map.
President @HassanSMohamud and @AliOmarMP, for lack of a better phrase, it is time for you to get a grip and grow a pair. Somalia’s sovereignty is routinely trampled upon by this country, while it plays dumb and repeatedly attempts to normalize sovereignty diminishing gimmickry.
They have done this to the country you lead more than ten times: Somalia-erasing maps, maps depicting Somaliland as a separate country, their national airline presenting Somaliland as another country, and now their Institute of Foreign Affairs engaging obsessively in misinformation and disinformation.
Enough.
Get rid of their troops and their embassy. Then perhaps they will wise up.

@MohammedSh91910@dhoorebbc Yes, we do. UN General Assembly document A/4402 (1960) confirms that Somalia became an independent and sovereign state on 1 July 1960.
Our thoughts and support are with Omar Artan during this difficult time. His journey to the highest level of football has inspired many across Somalia and Africa. We hope for a fair resolution and wish him strength as he faces this challenge. ⚽🇸🇴 #JusticeForOmarArtan#Football

New publication in "Cogent Food & Agriculture": our study finds FDI and agricultural labor are key drivers of long-term productivity in Somalia, while foreign aid has mixed short-term effects.

If you accept that regional elections can be rigged, you can’t oppose the federal elections being rigged as well. And if you yourself want to rig things, there’s no reason to object if someone else does it before you.
