Safaa Saleh, a 32-year-old mother of five, lives with her 47-year-old husband and their children aged 15, 13, 12, 10, and an infant in a torn tent in Gaza that shelters all seven of them and costs about $360 each month just for the land. Her husband has been paralysed from a spinal injury affecting the seventh disc and cannot move or leave Gaza for treatment, while also struggling with severe psychological conditions that require medication costing around $230 monthly. Safaa herself suffers from kidney stones and spends about $40 each month on treatment, all while caring for their 10-year-old son who has diabetes and needs constant care and costly medication that is often unavailable. The youngest baby requires milk, diapers, and proper nutrition, and the four older children need school supplies, warm clothes, and blankets, especially as they attend school in cold weather without adequate clothing. The family has already been displaced three times, and their current tent is badly damaged, leaking during rain and leaving everything inside wet and muddy, making daily life increasingly difficult as Safaa tries to manage medical needs, basic living costs, and her children’s well-being on her own.

She lives in a torn tent in Mawasi Deir al-Balah with her unemployed husband, Ayman, their four children, Yazan (11), who needs school supplies, fees, tutoring, and winter clothes; Kamal (4), whose clothes are torn and who requires kindergarten fees; Sila (3), suffering from severe acute malnutrition and needing winter clothes; and Aisel (10 months), who has skin infections from contaminated water and sand and needs diapers, milk formula, and medical treatment, and her elderly in-laws, an eight-person household displaced over six times after their home was destroyed. Her 65-year-old mother-in-law has type 1 diabetes and high blood pressure requiring ongoing medication, while her 70-year-old father-in-law is wheelchair-bound due to a herniated disc, has poor eyesight needing glasses or surgery, and faces mobility challenges; the family lacks food, clean water, blankets, warm clothing, and basic necessities as winter approaches, with no income to cover these needs or the rent for better shelter.

His 22-year-old brother Mohammed was taken by Israeli forces on November 1, 2025, and remains detained, with the family receiving very little information about his condition. Another brother was seriously injured after being shot in the face while trying to get flour for the family. Diaa was also badly injured after being shot in the thigh, fracturing his femur and causing nerve and tissue damage; he had a metal plate placed from his pelvis to his knee, but a broken fixation screw has recently made his condition worse and he now urgently needs surgery. He also suffered third-degree burns to his hands in a recent accident. Because he cannot walk long distances or work, he is no longer able to support the family as he once did. His mother, who is in her 60s, has diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease and needs ongoing treatment, while his father recently underwent surgery. The family now depends largely on donations and occasional meals from soup kitchens, while struggling to afford food, clean water, medicine, shelter, and the medical care Diaa and his family need.

Aed Adnan is a 25 year old man from Gaza who is single and still hopes to marry one day, but for now his entire focus is on caring for his family after losing everything. His father, who is 67, suffers from spinal problems as well as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, and his mother, who is 60, also lives with serious health conditions that require medication the family cannot afford. After their home and Aed’s supermarket were destroyed, they were forced to flee repeatedly and have now been displaced eight times, each move adding more debt and loss. Today they live in a fragile tent made of torn plastic and fabric on the beach in Mawasi Khan Younis, where seawater often floods their shelter, ruining what little they have and making the cold even harder to bear. With no steady income and no access to basics like sufficient food, clean water, warm clothes, blankets, or even a private bathroom, they rely on neighbors for the most basic needs while Aed struggles to hold things together. He is trying to find help to rent safer land away from the flooding, secure winter supplies, cover mounting debts, and provide medication and daily necessities so his aging parents and younger siblings can endure the conditions they are living through.

Ahmed himself also needs medical care after suffering health issues linked to contaminated drinking water, including severe inflammation and kidney salt buildup.
