Portal Vein Thrombosis Risk in Cirrhotic Patients With Portal Hypertension on Beta-Blockers: A Multi-Institutional Cohort Study

Do all nonselective β-blockers carry the same risk in cirrhosis?
In our large multi-institutional cohort:
🔹 Propranolol → ↑ portal vein thrombosis risk
🔹 Carvedilol → no increased PVT risk
🔹 Carvedilol → improved survival
These findings highlight that β-blocker selection may meaningfully influence outcomes in cirrhosis.
