It was surreal standing in front of the grave of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyya during my visit to Damascus last month.

His grave is situated in a small garden within a medical school campus - this used to be the site of a larger cemetery, but only these graves have been preserved. Next to him are buried his student Ibn Kathir, and Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ.

Damascus is a city whose history is unparalleled. The sheer quantity of ancient sites, historical monuments, and graves of the Companions and scholars, is something that cannot be found anywhere else.
