SFC Mark Allen was shot in the head by a sniper in Afghanistan on July 8, 2009.
He was part of a unit searching for Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier who walked away from his post. During the mission, Allen’s unit came under attack. A sniper’s bullet struck him in the head, causing a catastrophic traumatic brain injury.
The wound left him unable to walk or speak. He required constant care for the rest of his life.
Allen had served his country with honor.
He lived with the consequences of that day for ten years before passing away in 2019.
May this warrior never be forgotten!
