I received death threats after my last post. That changes nothing.

The Network School in Johor can still be net positive for Malaysia. Our country has real potential to become Southeast Asia’s top tech hub.

But as I clearly said before, we must properly investigate it first to protect our national interests.

The book The Network State by Balaji describes online groups building their own “cloud countries”. They eventually buy land and want to run their own rules.

This raises a serious issue: sovereignty, i.e. who actually controls Malaysia

Here are the main concerns:

• Land: If wealthy outsiders buy land and demand their own government, Putrajaya loses authority over Malaysian territory

• Taxes: High earners could pay taxes to the online group instead of Malaysia. We would lose revenue needed for schools, hospitals and development

• Laws: They could impose their own rules and private security instead of following Malaysian law and police

We should welcome good ideas and investment. But we cannot compromise on who controls our land, our taxes and our laws. A proper and transparent check is needed.

The authorities have started looking into this. Keep the conversation going. Seek clarity. That is the right step.

Y tras el silbatazo final en la eliminación de Portugal ante España, Cristiano Ronaldo simplemente NO pudo contenerse.
