@HexenFlexer@ValiantLyon@EyeSeaLoveVV I definitely felt more brain activity and had more fun once I started forcing myself to put quests and maps into working memory. I'm just wondering how to convince people to give that a try, because people are very resistant to change.
@HexenFlexer@ValiantLyon@EyeSeaLoveVV I gave those autobiographical details because I enthusiastically used those features and defended adding them. And there's independent devs adding those features sincerely trying to be helpful. It's just very unintuitive that more knowledge/choices ends up being usually bad here.
@HexenFlexer@ValiantLyon@EyeSeaLoveVV The presence of a feature like this, or even some disproportionately powerful strategy, means you have to either make the game hard even when you play it optimally, or make it easy enough so that you don't necessarily feel forced to use it. Obviously, devs choose the latter.
@HexenFlexer@ValiantLyon@EyeSeaLoveVV@ValiantLyon mentions that this feature is optional/ignorable, people in the comments are mentioning you can turn it off, same argument is used for customizable difficulty sliders for every single variable. But those things obviously change the entire game.
@halogen1048576@iron_redux This is obviously because long term stimulant use deletes feelings of fear and shame, which doesn't necessarily lead you towards true claims, it just allows you to accept true claims that feel horrifying and shameful to utter. And obviously Land is not optimizing for truth here.
@halogen1048576@iron_redux I used to really despise Nick Land back in ~2017, because his ideas felt like a pathetic way to cope with feelings of powerlessness. Then "adderall" somehow turned me into an unfaltering landian, which is obviously a kind of "brain damage" with tradeoffs.

@hypnullthesis@declarative_ And I think it's not a coincidence that rationalist culture is so strongly associated with prescription stimulants, and Nick Land is known for reifying truth / objectivity / reason to an unfathomable degree + consuming unfathomable amounts of amphetamines.
@ValiantLyon@EyeSeaLoveVV Not only would your character probably forget what they were going to do every time they get hit with yet another brutal combat encounter or eldritch revelation, forgetting something and getting to experience it all over again is something people often claim they want to do.
@ValiantLyon@EyeSeaLoveVV When you're adventuring in a dangerous foreign land and dealing with conspiracies, the arcane and the divine, then you're supposed to feel confused and lost and wander around. And when the player takes a break and forgets what they were doing the last time they played:
@Jahlvardravito@Ch1canerous Yes, quest logs are literal gameplay mechanics and not quality of life features that help the player access the "actual game". Reading, parsing and sometimes writing or remembering the quest log is a big part of the game itself. I think the OoT log is a bit too verbose/redundant.

@hypnullthesis@declarative_ The common assumption that adrenergic activity makes you anxious/impulsive/irrational is false. All of those things will get you killed in a dangerous situation, so adrenaline strongly reduces them. Anxiety/impulsivity/irrationality are dopaminergic.

@theoceanblooms Yes, those tricks are supposed to increase norepinephrine and make you feel like you're in danger. But people that tried stims/atomoxetine will tell you that this actually makes you feel more alive and less anxious / stressed out than you would assume.
So if you're an employer in the trades, consider paying more euros per month and not hazing outsiders, and then you will acquire outsiders. Also consider replying to other users, as this is a forum (not a blog).
There's some truth to this, I'm a privileged white* (russian/ukrainian) gen Z man myself, I used to have no hustle and decided to acquire some. Plan A was to do an apprenticeship in Germany, and I actually got my German to an intermediate level. But then I realize:
@DaleStarkA10 As an employer in the trades, unfortunately the white guy is the least productive in almost every aspect. I believe its mostly because of the way they're being raised. Just no hustle and too much privilege.
They're going to pay me 888 euro per month and haze the fuck out of me from several directions for being an outsider to their culture in at least three different ways. So I decided to acquire hustle from other sources and was successful.
@hypnullthesis@declarative_ It can be made manifold weaker through adrenergic drugs, since adrenaline literally exists to protect you from saber-toothed tigers ahead. The problem is that all of them (even atomoxetine) are inevitably going to be dopaminergic, which has the inverse effect.
@declarative_ If you haven't received any third party info on them since, the hate could be justified. Recently an internet acquaintance I had some inexplicable grievances with went offline for a while. People started fondly reminiscing about them, so I checked the logs and found the grievance
