Final review:
Story: technically
Acting: maximum
Dialogue: preserve for future generations
Subtlety: missing, presumed gone
Entertainment value: medically concerning
Gunda is not a movie.
Gunda is a dare.
And I deeply respect anyone who recommends it with a straight face.
finally watched Gunda and now I understand cinema peaked years ago and we’ve been in decline ever since.
The movie opens with the confidence of something that has never encountered the word “subtlety”.
Every character enters like a WWE pay-per-view reveal
And then
Gunda arrives.
By the second half I realised Gunda achieved true artistic freedom.
You cannot predict it.
Not because it is clever.
Scenes end when they get tired.
Characters survive injuries that would retire livestock
Dialogue arrives before thought
I wasn’t watching anymore
I was witnessing
Buying books in India and reading books in India are two completely different hobbies. One feeds intelligence, the other feeds the fantasy that someday I’ll have ‘a quiet weekend
Indian parents have two moods:
“You never call us.”
You call them.
“Why are you calling? Is everything okay? Are you sick? Do you need money? Have you eaten?”
There is no winning.
A man walks into a library and asks for books on paranoia.
The librarian whispers — “They’re right behind you.”
I have been thinking about this joke for 20 years and it still works.
Some things age like fine wine.
