This happens routinely with H-1Bs in big tech. They will go home to India for a brief vacation and suddenly have “visa issues” that result in them working abroad for weeks at a time. This is just considered normal and no one questions why or how this is allowed.
The Trump admin should be all over this. Indian tech executives are firing American tech workers and moving their jobs to India. Thousands and thousands of jobs. Trump could stop this with a flick of his pen. This is a national-security issue.
The saddest part is that America graduates enough STEM majors every year to fill all new openings in tech or tech adjacent fields-- yet all of the jobs that haven't been replaced by AI are going to H-1Bs or being filled by DEI quotas. We are systemically pulling up the ladder for the next generation of American ingenuity.
I am going to suggest the La Jolla rule. Any company that has a layoff get slapped with a 10 year moratorium on new H-1B visa and renewals. If they are having to cut back on American workers they don't need foreign workers.
Last decade scholars wrote mournfully about the “China shock” that destroyed American manufacturing in the early 2000s. “If only we could have done something.”
Next decade researchers will write furiously about the “India shock” that destroyed American tech in the 2020s.
You are living through the India shock.
And our feckless leaders not only won’t do anything to stop it, but they encourage it b/c they are beneficiaries.
Really kinda challenges "we need these people to do jobs Americans can't" when you fire Americans who are currently doing the jobs and replace them with Indians.
reminder that custom keyboards were pioneered by autistic chuds who invented approximately 35,000 different ways to stack/layer keys/macros (tap dance, mod tap, mod morph, auto shift, on and on and on) you’re not supposed to use the default key map, if you do you’re a slave
> Gabe Newell no longer being in charge of Steam could mean DRAMATIC anti-consumer changes, just as we're seeing with Sony
Gabe hasn't been running Steam directly for years now.
He does make some decisions make no mistake but it's largely run by trusted people inside the company.
Steam's flat structure and private shares also really protect it from this type of bullshit that straight up just comes from "middle management" into the company.
You have more to fear from a lawsuit splitting up valve or forcing it to operate in a different way than the company itself as is.
"So let me get this straight, you have several plantations."
"That's right Dave. Monticello, Poplar Forest, Shadwell, and Tufton."
"And you've got a profitable nail factory."
"That's right, Dave."
"So, where's all the money going?"
"Books and wine, Dave."

One of those normal bright white boy experiences is hitting the point where you break the curve on the standardized achievement tests and your fourth or fifth grade teacher is upset because you didn't improve from the previous year
I have no data supporting it, but I think something like an “Italian tuneup” works for your body too. Just doing something at max effort, even for a really short time, somehow shakes things up inside you to help fix your body
It's just completely unacceptable to graduate 4.7 million college students per year and create 181,000 jobs. We have 25 college students competing for every new job. That's before factoring in legal, illegal mass migration, and people who lost their jobs during Covid. A crisis.
God removed his hand from our land because we let our women murdr so many babies. That is why we are now flooded with foreigners. Its a curse on the land.
