How Vijay Built Political Momentum for TVK in Just Two Years
When actor Joseph Vijay launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), many initially dismissed it as another fan based political experiment. But within just two years, Vijay managed to make TVK politically unavoidable in Tamil Nadu.
One major reason was digital influence. Unlike traditional parties that relied heavily on TV channels, newspapers, banners, and cadre networks, TVK’s growth happened largely online. YouTube channels, meme pages, reels, WhatsApp forwards, and Twitter/X trends continuously kept Vijay in public discussion.
TVK supporters built their own online ecosystem. Every speech became viral content. Old interviews were repackaged. Movie dialogues were politically reframed. Whether positive or negative, Vijay remained part of daily political conversations.
Another key factor was Vijay’s image. For years, he cultivated the reputation of being calm, disciplined, and relatively controversy free. Even issues like the Karur controversy or Sangeetha Trisha gossip discussions did not seriously affect his core support base. His fans already had emotional loyalty built through decades of cinema influence.
Timing also played a major role. Tamil Nadu is currently going through a political transition after leaders like J. Jayalalithaa and M. Karunanidhi. Many young voters are searching for a new political alternative, and TVK entered at the right moment.
However, digital popularity alone cannot guarantee electoral victory. Social media creates attention and momentum, but elections are still decided by booth strength, alliances, local leadership, caste equations, and ground level organization.
What Vijay has achieved in two years is not complete political success yet but he has successfully made TVK impossible to ignore in Tamil Nadu politics.
Obsolute Makkal Sakthi.

As of this year, about 50% of Tamil Nadu school students study in government schools. This percentage has dropped considerably because the government schools have gotten worse. Often even poor rural parents borrow money to send their children to private schools when they can, because of the deterioration in government schools.
One key problem is the corruption in government school recruitment, which has been a long standing open secret and the going rate I am told is about one year of salary paid in advance.
I studied in free schools funded by the government (aided school) so I want to make the system stronger.
We are happy to run our free private schools, and we will expand them further, but we need to make our government schools much stronger.
We still have many dedicated teachers in government schools. We have to strengthen them. A good place to start is to end the corruption in school teacher recruitment.
The infrastructure of government schools is good in some places, not so good in others. But fixing that comes next, only after fixing recruitment.
Our poorest communities need strong free schools. Thank you 🙏 @CMOTamilnadu
Happiest Birthday to Dr. Sridhar Vembu – A Living Legend, a Pride of India, and a National Asset!
When an educated nationalist who also happens to be a self-made billionaire influences millions of young minds towards patriotism and nation-building, what else could make such a person a living legend?
How many of you know that Dr. Vembu, despite being a billionaire, uses a basic ₹10,000 smartphone?
How many of you know that more than 700 of his employees are served three meals a day completely free of cost?
How many of you know that Dr. Vembu firmly believes rural India is fully capable of sustaining itself, and that young people need not migrate to big cities to succeed?
How many of you know that one of his most recent ventures has been the development of India's own indigenous products, including the messaging app Arattai, which is used by crores of people both within and outside India?
What impressed me the most is his fight against corruption in Tamil Nadu and his quest to usher in transparency and honesty in governance.
Most importantly, Dr. Vembu is the embodiment of unwavering commitment and perseverance in making India a world-class, state-of-the-art innovation hub, perfectly embodying Prime Minister Modi's Make in India vision.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish Dr. Sridhar Vembu – a Living Legend, a Pride of India, and a National Asset – a very, very Happy Birthday! @svembu
Note:

@DrPraveenwrites@TVKPartyHQ@BJP4TamilNadu If soft Hindutva alone is enough, then why should voters support any ideological party at all? Wouldn't every party simply adopt popular positions during elections and make dedicated ideological movements irrelevant? I am confused !
@DrPraveenwrites Wonder women, when BJP was nothing in TN she has joined in the party
Where as Brother mountain joined when it was fastly growing.. keep going!!
Maridhas arrest – What Chief Minister Joseph Vijay should learn from Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha!
I feel this arrest was unwarranted and only brings bad repute to an otherwise performing government.
Dissent and criticism are hallmarks of a healthy democracy. If you crush people who come up with constructive criticism, you are effectively digging your own grave because criticism often helps a government identify and rectify its shortcomings.
If the government wants to listen only to cheer leaders and stops listening to critics, what happened to @arivalayam in 2026 could very well happen to @TVKVijayHQ in 2031.
Karunanidhi’s approach!
More than the journals that supported Karunanidhi, he was known to closely read publications that criticized his government.
For example, Karunanidhi regularly read Thuglak and paid attention to Cho Ramaswamy’s criticisms. At times, he would even rectify mistakes and personally inform Cho that corrective action had been taken. Karunanidhi, despite all his political flaws, was relatively tolerant of criticism.
Jayalalitha’s approach!
Even though Jayalalitha was often perceived as intolerant of criticism (and the media was rarely kind to her), barring a few incidents, she generally did not resort to arresting her critics.
Instead, she would file defamation cases against journals and media houses that wrote against her.
@CMOTamilnadu should learn how to handle criticisms from the approaches adopted by these two leaders. Filing a legal case against @MaridhasAnswers and allowing the law to take its course would perhaps have been the more mature, generous and democratic approach.
This arrest appears unnecessary, and I hope @MaridhasAnswers is released soon.
