Wrote an article on creating an xP metric to get an understanding which players/teams succeed in scoring more points than expected. By modeling made shots given unique shot characteristics, we can discover some under/overvalued players.

Over the last 10 seasons, shots near the hoop and 3-pointers seem to generate the most expected points per shot. The model seems to favor “Moreyball” quite considerably as mid-range shots lack considerably in xP metrics.
