@DoctorLockwood Alright. It just feels uncomfortable to read as this sort of artificially created phrase. Maybe you're using it naturally and would refer to any group of people as "folks" in that way, though.
@sbkaufman Seems like the ego basing self-value on an external perception of yourself, combined with resentment from that perception threatening to limit you.
@martinmbauer What if it's not just being exposed to ideas, but being exposed to specific pointed ideas from the motivation of shaping you into a specific worldview?
@exisdential@sbkaufman@anandabits The problem is not knowing what your "true self" is. That concept may give meaning to some, but it can also harm others.
@sbkaufman That could do harm as well, so it needs a better definition. If you hold a concept of your ideal and perfect "self" and fail to reach it (perhaps inevitably) then you will only cause yourself to suffer. Should the pianist grieve that he never fulfilled his potential of painting?
Before we could know whether someone has had "gender-affirming" care, or has been "misgendered," we'd have to know what a gender is.
We're miles away from that, and drifting further, like Voyager 2 leaving the solar system. 🛰🌌
@peterboghossian It’s one guy. And his point, even if you disagree, is that he didn’t think it was that widespread a movement. I can see his point because most people were not that extreme.
