It was fun to put this together from a bunch of archive footage. It's like a tour of my hair color over the last 5 years. 💅🏻
Women with IBD often experience the disease differently than men, yet many of these challenges remain underrecognized and understudied.
Hormonal changes throughout life can impact disease activity, symptoms, fertility, pregnancy outcomes, menopause, and even bone health. Research also suggests women with #IBD may face delays in diagnosis, with symptoms sometimes dismissed as stress or anxiety.
As research continues to uncover the complex relationship between hormones, inflammation, and IBD, specialized and individualized care for women is critical.
Swipe through to learn more about how IBD uniquely affects women across different stages of life.

@Youcantmakethi4 Yes! I’ve had bleeding after running a 5k and it’s a whole different experience when you have a jpouch. 😆 But long distance runners sometimes ignore the diarrhea and bleeding.
This is so interesting but also scary. I talked with The IBD Athlete on #AboutIBDPodcast about how GI symptoms (like bleeding) are normalized in the elite athlete space. Her #Crohns was hiding because of that.
Running induces colon adenomas?? 🏃♂️
Prospective study in @cancer_epidemio n=94, ages 35–50, ≥5 marathons. Colonoscopy results:
🛑41% adenomas
🛑15% advanced adenomas
Volunteer bias is possible but still an interesting signal that requires further inspection. Is it the effort or maybe the osmotic drinks?

Common question from pts is whether egg freezing is ok with IBD. This study from @Dr_RohitKhanna@PIANOIBD@HelmsleyTrust shows that the egg cryopreservation process does not lead to flares of IBD. @UCSF@MLongMD
@IBDinsights Please do! Part of being in the space is being aware of and learning about the emerging science and the clinical trials. But also in knowing which of these patients will be most interested in, because they may affect treatment decisions.
A lot of y’all have upgraded to rode wireless mics. They don’t need to be held near the mouth: clipping them on your collar works great! The wind screen shouldn’t be needed if you’re not outside. If you’re hearing plosives, that’s because it’s too close to the mouth. 💜
As part of my volunteer work, I’m reviewing colonoscopy prep instructions. I’d love to compare to others. I’d be grateful if anyone would like to share the instructions they received before their prep or what their institution uses. I think it will help patients!
@bottomlineibd Thank you so much! I really like the overview at the top telling you that you need to be aware of making changes 5 days prior. I know someone who didn’t read the whole thing until only a few days before, so they hadn’t made those changes. 😬 All turned out well. In the end. 😃
