FROM HAND HOE TO TRACTOR: MECHANIZED FARMING COMES TO BAMUTAKUDDE!

The rains are here and it's planting season in Bamutakudde!

While we had secured maize seeds, fertilizers and hoes, we have received an exceptional boost.

Device Solutions Uganda Limited visited Bamutakudde Village and offered us a tractor with full implements for clearing, tilling and softening the soil to open ground for everyone with land.

They fully sponsored the operator and the fuel as their contribution to Bamutakudde's production.

Even better, this is sustainable: the tractor and operator will be stationed at their centre in Nakifuma and will remain available to all Bamutakudde residents you only need to fuel!

Within hours, a huge acreage was cleared and we have already planted maize. We anticipate an amazing harvest!

UPDATE: NUP’s Rose Nalubowa has concluded presenting her evidence in the Masaka City Woman MP election petition challenging the victory of NRM’s Justine Nameere. Nalubowa’s final witness, Bukenya Douglas, told court that he had transferred video clips which the petitioner intends to rely on as evidence. The respondents, led by lawyer Anthony Bazira, then opened their case, with Nameere appearing via Zoom. During cross-examination, Nameere testified that polling stations found to have irregularities were disqualified by Chief Magistrate Abert Asiimwe, who conducted the vote recount. Nalubowa wants court to nullify Nameere’s victory, alleging irregularities in the recount. The hearing has been adjourned briefly to allow the respondents to present their remaining witnesses.

Together with some MPs on the Shadow Cabinet, we this morning went to the construction site of Lubowa Specialized Hospital to conduct a scheduled oversight visit. Despite the Ministry of Health directing the facility to grant us access and facilitate the tour, we were denied access.

1.5 trillion shs of tax payers’ money has so far been injected into this project, but there’s no accountability for all this money. In the previous Parliament, we were still denied access to the facility, and so was the then Minister of Health.
If Gov’t is serious about the fight against corruption as we hear them say, they shouldn’t only go for those misappropriating small amounts, we want to see them also go after those who are failing to account for trillions of shillings!

In 2006, I was a journalist with UBC-TV. We were removed from the 15 acres of prime land at Nakasero belonging to UBC, which was then given out to private developers to construct a hotel to host CHOGM delegates in 2007.

That same year, Shimon demonstration school and teachers’ college was also demolished to pave way for a CHOGM hotel on the 15 acre piece of land.
CHOGM came and went, but the said hotels were not in place for the mentioned purpose, and controversy surrounded the land for years.

In 2011, Gov’t forcefully evicted over 1750 families from the Naguru-Nakawa housing estate to make room for a “modern satellite city” project on the 162 acres. That “development” doesn’t exist to-date.

These, and many more controversial land give-aways come to mind when we hear of plans to give away the city square for another “development”.
City square is one of the very few green spaces left in the city, so to learn that it is to be replaced with a private business structure is bizarre!
