Contrast: At an introductory team meeting for 15O Jr Coyotes, HC Michael Grabner told them:
“Have fun this summer - workout but be a kid - you don’t need to be on the ice everyday - give your body a break - see you in August.”
12 year NHL career, but what does he know.
The guy squirting water into Zach Ertz’s mouth is Joe O’Pella. He’s an athletic trainer that’s been with the team for over 15 years at this point.
NFL teams don’t really have water boys, athletic trainers are usually the ones responsible for having water on the practice field and during games, but this post is absolutely hilarious.
A guy who rehabbed my ACL tear in my second year, has a masters degree from Pitt, and has years of experience keeping Eagles players healthy and on the field being called a “Waterboy” is crazy, and I’m already giving him shit for it, but good lord this post is so wildly misleading.
Either way, thought I’d clear the air, that the people with Water Bottles during games actually serve much bigger roles on NFL Teams.
I asked my producers not to make any clips from the dad grief portion but enough people reached out about this part I changed my mind.
Jim Nantz on what Arnold Palmer told him about his dad is one of the most impactful things I’ve ever heard. A lot of people need to hear this.
This whole NHL Draft presentation is some of the most bizarre, sloppily thrown together shit I've ever seen in pro sports. Every second is more bizarre than the last
My kids haven’t laced em up since season ended. They dove right Into lax and field hockey
Someone from the “in crowd” was talking to me and said aren’t you worried they are going to fall behind.
The answer is simple. No
Some things I have come to realize over time in this sport.
1. The parents can’t drive the bus. My child has never once come to me and said. Dad I Need to do all this spring and summer stuff
2. At some point genetics win. No matter how good your child is or will be someone who is 4 inches taller or 1 mph faster will be taken before them.
3. Distance makes the heart grow fonder. It’s an old term. But time away is what we all need. Work, sports , school. Every kid needs a reset.
This isn’t about right or wrong, it’s just about how I view it. If your kid wants hockey 365 days a year, Provide it ! Just make sure the end goal isn’t about chasing your dream it’s about making core memories.
Important study to reflect on at the moment. No study is perfect but this highlights the potential risk of returning to sport before 9 months after an ACL reconstruction “More Haste, Less Speed”. https://t.co/bf4yfl1dfg
Plays on 3 different teams for the same sport in the spring
Says they can’t make time for strength training, so no strength training takes place
Wonders why they are injured before it’s even May
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
Amazing how his training looks similar to football, baseball, & basketball training. It's almost like building strength, mobility, and power gives a skilled athlete more strength, mobility, and power to use with their skillset.
Watch Josh Anderson’s reaction on the bench. He was wearing cut resistant socks that protected him from a career and life threatening injury from a skate laceration. I will continue to plead with all hockey players from all levels to prioritize safety & protect yourselves by wearing cut resistant apparel. 🙏 @daredevilhockey
@zachr77@CaitrATC Spot on. The position is not set up for you to be super successful. There are a lot of positions across our profession that could be much more rewarding and have more support. Don’t continue to settle for mediocrity from your superiors.
