On the final day of the Constitutional Convention, as the last delegates were signing their names, 81 year old Benjamin Franklin looked up at the chair behind George Washington.
On the back of the chair was a sun.
Franklin had stared at that sun for months through every bitter argument, every deadlock and every moment he wondered whether the whole thing would collapse.
He turned to the men near him and said:
“I have often and often, in the course of the session, looked at that behind the President without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting. But now at length I have the happiness to know that it is a rising and not a setting sun.”
Thomas Paine publishes an open letter in the Pennsylvania Evening Post, under the name “Republicus,” which advocates for the name “United States of America” for the new nation now emerging.
This is the first time such a term has been used.
Future Denver Pioneers forward Logan Stuart is the No. 208 pick in the 2026 NHL draft by the Washington Capitals.
Stuart, the son of ex-#Avs defenseman Brad Stuart, is expected to join DU for the 2027-28 season.
Of note: Ivan Ivan had a really productive playoff run for the Eagles in their path to the Conference Final (3 G 12 A 15 pts in 17 GP) - his line was one of the most consistent and used to swing momentum and regain possession, tilt ice. Energy line. He's a strong skater, engaged forechecker, and grew stronger at faceoffs (used for d-zone draws late in games). A lot of his playmaking came from winning a 50/50 battle and getting a quick pass off.
Mikey Berchild, future Denver Pioneers forward, is the No. 105 pick in the 2026 NHL draft by the Carolina Hurricanes.
All eight members of DU's incoming recruiting class are now NHL draft picks.
Freshman forward Mikey Berchild has been selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 4th Round at No. 105 overall in the 2026 #NHLDraft.
Mikey is heading to the #StanleyCup champs!
