STRAW, MY OPINIONS:

1. BUSINESSMAN BEFORE A FILMMAKER- I respect Tyler Perry’s hustle, he understands the formula: smut, trauma, trash, rinse, repeat. There’s market and he’s giving people what they want.

2. BASIC STEREOTYPES- One thing about Tyler Perry, he will portray black people as poor, vulgar, and typically "ghetto" e.g the supermarket scenes

3. MESSY- the bank was closing in one scene, yet in another scene, there was suddenly a long line of people inside. And counting $521 took that long ?

4. RUNNING THE SAME SCRIPT: The storyline of a single Black mother (or struggling Black woman) is overused in his work obviously.

5. UNREALISTIC- Janiyah losing her daughter, job, and car all in one day threw me off — it made it obvious it’s a movie. Realistically, bad things don’t hit all at once; I wish they had let a few days pass before she lost her job.

CONCLUSION: Straw is an emotional overload. It throws pain at you so fast, you don’t even have time to question the plot- or the lack of one. If tears were the goal, mission accomplished. It’s emotionally exhausting, not because it’s powerful, but because it’s relentless and messy. At some point, it stops being storytelling and starts feeling like emotional clickbait.
