Add to that the cost of excavation, repairs, and delays—estimated at an additional 20-30% of the original expense—and the total loss becomes a bitter pill for taxpayers to swallow.
Beyond the monetary waste, there’s the disruption to daily life. Residents and shopkeepers in the affected area now face weeks of dust, noise, and traffic chaos, erasing the brief relief they felt when the road was first completed. “We celebrated when the potholes were gone,” said a local shop owner. “Now we’re back to square one. Who is accountable for this mess?”

In recent years, the PMC has faced criticism for other mismanagement scandals, from flood response failures to unaddressed waste burning complaints. The latest road excavation fiasco only adds fuel to the fire, raising questions about the competence of its leadership and the accountability of its officers.
