An AI capable of passing the bar exam, translating ancient texts, and solving quantum physics problems is currently generating 40 variations of: "I hope this email finds you well."
@NostalgiaFolder My first job. It was my dream job back when I was a kid (until it wasn't 😉). I still miss that feeling though more and more. It was something special.
I think eventually this is going the way of self-hosted, but only once models are condensed even further to fit on everyday consumer hardware. Bonsai 27B, Qwen 3.5/6, and Gemma 4 are huge strides in this direction. It won't be long. The wrapper(s) will matter more than the models themselves too due to intelligence stagnation for general use. Again, just my 2 cents!
The AI strategy has been done many times before in business. People rented time on someone else's machine, until we didn't have to.
The mainframe computer's monopoly on compute died because local hardware became viable. We're seeing that change once again. #OpenSource
@trasselvardias@VideoGameHstry The good old days when I would go to the store and grab the giant foldable cover pc games. A lot of times I would buy games just because of this (half-life, Homeworld, etc.).
