On June 15th, 2026, the Academic Parity Movement (APM) is bringing the global fight against #harassment to Bern, #Switzerland for: #STEM the #Bullying: The #European#Dialogue.
We’re moving beyond just "talking" about the problem. We’re gathering the people who actually have the power to change the system:
🔬 Researchers sharing lived experiences.
🏛️ University Administrators implementing new policies.
💰 Funding Agencies rethinking accountability.
⚖️ Policy Advocates driving systemic reform.
Harassment isn't just a personal issue—it’s a barrier to scientific innovation. It’s time to reshape the culture so talent can thrive unimpeded.

Congratulations to @MoriMahmoudi on receiving the 2026 Award for Scientific Freedom and Responsibility from the @aaas. His work defending scientific freedom and combating researcher mistreatment is being recognized and celebrated.
This is one of the most heart-breaking & important articles I have ever read - from someone whose voices are so rarely heard, a teenaged girl.
If you want to understand online misogyny in all its devastating impact, please read this shattering piece.
Here’s one appalling extract:
"A few days ago I saw an Instagram reel of a young woman talking about how she had been raped six years ago, struggled with thoughts of suicide afterwards, but managed to rebuild her life again. Among the comments – the majority of which were from men – were things like “Well at least you had some”, “No way, she’s unrapeable”, “Hope you didn’t talk this much when it happened”, “Bro could have picked a better option.” Reading those comments, which had thousands of likes and many boys agreeing with them, made me feel sick.”
And here’s the impact on this teenager’s self-esteem:
"Using social media has ruined my self-esteem & my relation to being a girl in this world, & nearly every day I feel hatred towards my gender, my appearance, or even teenage girls as a category. The misogyny I see from boys my age online, which is echoed in real life too, has made me grow resentful and bitter towards them, as much as I try to avoid it. As wrong as it is, I persistently find myself considering if there are truly any boys out there who are not misogynistic to some extent, & have even questioned whether I can find love in the future because of this.”
Our daughters do not have to grow up in a world that teaches them they're "community pussy" while still children. Teen boys aren't born misoygnistic - they learn these attitudes from adults. This is on every one of us, male and female alike, to fix. Banning kids from social media won't come close to addressing the fundamental misogyny that's alive, well and thriving in contemporary society. If all of us refused to accept it, called it out for what it is, culture would change.
What a brave young woman this author is.
Howard is the only historically Black college or university in the United States to have landed the coveted title of an R1 research university

"As a scientist, I was trained to seek evidence, test hypotheses, and adjust based on data. However, in the classroom, I was teaching without any feedback. It felt like speaking into the void, without an opportunity to make adjustments. I needed a way to gauge students’ understanding before it was too late." #ScienceWorkingLife https://t.co/rI2eGs2tDm
"… I reflected on how we train future scientists. Should we talk more openly with students about failure? When I quietly left research, frustrated at what felt like my lack of accomplishment, was this a typical experience? How often do we inadvertently discourage students from persisting in science, simply by omitting honest descriptions of the failure inherent to the research process? Research is messy and full of failed attempts. Trying to protect students from that reality does them a disservice."

#AcademicTwitter In 2023, @AcademicParity received 832 requests for help. When a request comes in, they offer the person informal advice. Then, @MoriMahmoudi refers them to a board member in their discipline & cultural context, so that the advice is more relevant and personalized

Professor Sir Ian Chapman @UKRI_CEO how do you plan to reimagine UK's research culture to end cover ups of bullying & harassment? Does @UKRI_News now have a mechanism to report on sanctions and for rapidly determining the reason why a sanction was applied?
