Mentoring boys today is an investment in responsible men and safer communities tomorrow.

Presiding Archbishop Zack Maina of Rehoboth House of Worship International Ministry paid a courtesy call to our CEO @puritynginaa

The engagement focused on his work in mentoring young boys and supporting male prisoners through guidance, rehabilitation and personal transformation.

These interventions are important because many boys and men face social pressures, harmful gender expectations and limited access to positive role models or safe spaces where they can seek support.

The discussions explored opportunities for collaboration in promoting responsible masculinity, preventing gender-based violence and strengthening mentorship initiatives for boys and incarcerated men.

Effective rehabilitation must go beyond serving a sentence. It should encourage accountability, behavioural change and successful reintegration into families and communities.

Engaging men and boys as partners in advancing gender equality is essential to breaking cycles of violence and building a society founded on dignity, respect and equality for all.

Strengthening rehabilitation. Building resilience. Promoting peace.

@NCTC_Kenya, through the Kenya–EU Partnership supporting the implementation of the NSPCVE, convened the Annual Psychosocial Support Network Forum in Nairobi.

The forum brought together key PCVE stakeholders drawn from the academia, security agencies, private sector, Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs) and religious institutions to validate the revised National Strategy for the Management of Returning Foreign Terrorist Fighters and Domestic Violent Extremists, while sharing lessons and best practices to strengthen psychosocial support under the DDRR framework.

Through collaboration and evidence-based approaches, we continue to build resilient communities and enhance sustainable reintegration.

Let Women Rise, Lead and Thrive

I am genuinely surprised, and deeply saddened, to see people, both women and men, being used to fight other women, while many stand by and clap.

The political landscape is already hostile to women. It manifests through insults, humiliation, character assassination, online abuse, intimidation and the relentless scrutiny that women in public life are subjected to.

What troubles me even more is when women and men become instruments in tearing down other women, sometimes not because of what they have done, but simply because they have entered a space where power is contested.

I am not in politics. But I have many female friends who are. I see the price they often pay, not just as politicians, but as mothers, wives, daughters and human beings. And I genuinely cry for them, for their children and for their families, because behind every political contest is a woman with a life, a family and people who love her.

We can disagree politically. We can challenge ideas, policies and leadership. But must we destroy women in the process?

And to the men who participate in, enable or cheer on the destruction of women: would you want your wife, sister or daughter treated this way simply because she dared to seek leadership?

Today it may be another woman being attacked. Tomorrow it could be you, your sister, your daughter or your friend.

Let us not allow politics to turn women against women, or men against women, in the pursuit of power.

We can compete without destroying each other. We can disagree without dehumanising each other. We can be ambitious without becoming cruel.

Women have fought for space at the table. Let us not become the reason another woman is pushed away from it.

Let women rise. Let men support. Let politics remain a contest of ideas.

Let's protect each other.

The solution begins with building a culture where political competition is separated from personal destruction. We need stronger accountability for online abuse and character assassination, but equally important, women’s movements and male allies must create solidarity networks that challenge misogyny regardless of political affiliation. Let us teach and practice the principle that we can challenge a woman’s ideas, policies and leadership without attacking her dignity, identity or family. When women stand together, and men actively refuse to participate in the humiliation of women, politics can become a contest of ideas rather than a battlefield for destroying lives.

We began our GBV prevention training in Kiamaiko Ward, Mathare, and it was inspiring to see young mothers turn up with such enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
From active discussions to role plays and practical demonstrations, their participation showed that communities can be powerful agents of change in preventing violence against women.
We are grateful to @KCDF , @CMETrust , Crime Si Poa & @NGECKenya for partnering with us to make Mathare safer for women and men.
Together, we can build communities rooted in safety, dignity and equality.

[The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) @NGECKenya]

The violence may happen behind a screen. The consequences can follow someone into their home, workplace, school and community.

Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) includes online harassment, threats, cyberstalking, doxxing, impersonation and image-based abuse. It can undermine safety, dignity, wellbeing and participation.

Kenya’s latest MASS data estimates that 37.04% of respondents have experienced TFGBV in their lifetime, yet only 13.16% reported to authorities.

The Commission is committed to strengthening awareness, prevention, stakeholder coordination, monitoring and advocacy for safer digital spaces.

Digital violence is real violence. It deserves a real response.

Kenya's digital safety conversation cannot ignore the numbers. 37.04% of respondents surveyed in the 2025 @UNFPAKen MASS Baseline Study reported experiencing TFGBV, yet only 13.16% reported their experiences to authorities.

Behind every statistic is a person whose privacy, dignity, safety or participation may have been affected.

Low reporting can reflect limited awareness of available services, anonymity of perpetrators and gaps in specialised response mechanisms. Closing this gap requires institutions, platforms, communities and users to take digital violence seriously.

We must make reporting safer, support more accessible and accountability stronger.

We are happy to welcome our new stakeholders during the inception meeting on the implementation of the Safety and Security, GBV and Livelihoods for vulnerable youth and women in communities program under ACCEPT KENYA.
The new project will be implemented in Mathare and Kayole informal settlements in Nairobi County with support from Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF).

The collaboration between @UNODC and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to grow.

Today, with Maj General Mohammed Al-Muhanna, Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will guide closer and structured collaboration against financial crimes, including money laundering, illicit financial flows, financing of terrorism, trafficking of drugs and persons, as well as corruption.

We committed to commence the implementation of the MoU by starting with tailored and targeted capacity-building, mentoring, and exchange of best practices, while supporting Saudi Arabia’s continued leadership in the region and beyond in countering financial and organized crime. We also agreed to create a mechanism for regular review of performance.

I took the opportunity to commend Saudi Arabia for its demonstrated leadership in multilateral cooperation and support for United Nations entities.

It was a pleasure to address the @UNODC Group of Friends of Gender and to speak on the issue of online violence and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

This is a matter of profound concern as technology makes it easier to create and circulate this kind of material online, with women particularly vulnerable and deliberately targeted.

We must strengthen our responses to this type of harm, by implementing laws and international instruments, including the recently adopted @UN Convention against Cybercrime, working closer with the private sector and technology companies and building a whole-of-society response.

UNODC is uniquely positioned to support these efforts through our cross-cutting thematic expertise and our experience working across the full criminal justice chain.

Together, we can create digital spaces that are safer, fairer and anchored in human dignity.

Today, I had the honour of taking my oath of office before @UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres as Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna and Executive Director of @UNODC.

In taking this oath, I am reminded that international civil service is, above all, a commitment to people. As I solemnly declared my dedication to carry out these functions with integrity, impartiality, and the utmost regard for the purposes and principles of the United Nations, I reflected on the responsibility that comes with this trust.

I step into this role with humility, gratitude and a profound sense of duty, and look forward to working with colleagues and partners across the UN system, and the world to advance peace, security, justice and the rule of law, for a more prosperous and dignified future for all.

700+ NYS trainees were engaged by NCTC on P/CVE sensitization

Why it matters: They are now better equipped to question, resist and push back against extremist influence

What they gained:
* How to recognize and question extremist narratives
* Tools to strengthen their mindset against manipulation
* Safe ways to report suspicious activities

But it went beyond training.
They heard from voices with lived experience:
* Sheikh Ramadhan Aula, Director @PeaceCenter_, an Islamic Law expert, who challenged harmful narratives and reinforced that faith should never be used to justify violence
* A reformed convict who lost 21 years behind bars, reminding them how quickly choices can shape a lifetime
* A youth who spoke honestly about peer pressure and using social media wisely

This is how we move upstream: shaping mindsets, strengthening resilience, and stopping radicalization before it starts.

Sensitization of Students & Teachers, Nakuru County

With guns you can fight terrorists; with education you can prevent terrorism.

On 17 March 2026, @NCTC_Kenya engaged education staff and students at the Rift Valley Regional Sports event at Nakuru Boys High School, Nakuru County, in a counter-terrorism awareness session.

Supported by @EUinKenya, the session focused on strengthening participants’ ability to recognize and challenge extremist narratives, while highlighting the critical role of schools and colleges in preventing radicalization.

Through such initiatives, #NCTC continues to partner with learning institutions to build informed, vigilant communities that can resist recruitment and extremist influence, advancing the goals of #NSPCVE.
